Love, is Needed

Yes I got permission from ponyphonic to use both songs. These are also what inspired me to write this.
And before you say a word no it is not master chief from halo, it will be explained in later chapters.

Prologue

2205 B.N. Sunset
“Sister it is time for our duties.” Celestia said as she walked into her sister’s room.

“Yes sister, we know.” Luna said glumly.

“Sister, is something wrong?” Celestia asked, full of concern for her younger sister.

It had been a few years now that Celestia has seen something changing in her sister, but she has never had time to try and figure out what was ailing her sister. She always had duties and meetings taking up her schedule to ever have time with her sister anymore, but she could still tell when something was on her sister’s mind.

“No sister we are ok.” Luna said to her sister, trying to end it with a forced smile.

“Ok, Luna are you coming?” Celestia asked.

“Yes sister.” Luna stated as she stood up and trotted to her sister.

They trotted down the elegant hallway of the divine elegant old castle of Equestria, slowly they made their way to the large balcony that had been made for their duties. As they went down the hall Celestia noticed that Luna just kept her eyes on the floor and did not look away, Celestia grew more worried about her little sister even more once she saw this. Finally they made it to the balcony to fulfill their duties that had been set upon them at birth.

“Are thou ready sister?” Celestia asked Luna.

“As we will ever be sister.” Luna let out a long sigh then looked up towards the sky.

They started their process of setting the sun and rising the moon to its full glory, yet the moon was not in its full glory this night for it resembled the emotions that Luna felt at the time she raised it. This moon was dim and dreary compared to what it used to be; even the stars had lost the luster they once carried. Once they were done Luna sat down and started to stare at the floor once more. Celestia was more than confused to see this behavior come from her sister.

“Celestia, when is the last time you looked at my moon?” Luna asked.

This had caught Celestia off guard, not only because her sister was being very quite this evening, but the question itself. She looked at the moon every night just like Luna looked at the sun every morning.

“We look at it every night sister.” Celestia stated.

“No, that is not what we meant dear sister. We mean when is the last time thou had looked at the moon and thought about it, let alone the stars. What we are asking is, has thy ever truly gave the moon more than some thought, or did thou also forget about it like our subjects?” Luna asked as she stood up.

Celestia was taken aback by the question; the sad truth was she could not remember the last time she had ever looked at the moon like she does her sun. It hurt to even think that she did not give the moon the respect she gave her own sun. She also knew their subjects never took notice of it either.

“Luna I-“Celestia stopped as she noticed she was alone, slowly a single tear fell onto the floor of the balcony.

2210 B.N.

“WE DON’T UNDERSTAND, WHY DOES NOPONY LOVE OUR PRESISH NIGHT?!” Luna cried out trying to understand.

Luna was in the middle of a war in her mind trying to figure everything out that has plagued her for the last century, but she kept getting the same answer. Nopony loved her night; in fact it was as some of them feared it.

“If our subjects fear our night we will give them a reason to. No longer will the sun out shine our moon, I will show them all the moons beauty.” Luna stated.

Slowly Luna made her way to her balcony, once she was near the railing she began to sing as her emotions were fed upon by the darkness that was rising within her.

“Now the hour has come at last
The soft and fading light
Has crossed the west horizon
And has bidden us goodnight
And what a lovely night it is
To walk a moonlit field
To see the softer shades
That are by starlight now revealed

So why is it that now,
When all is quiet and at rest
When candles glow and all the world
Is at its very best
The ponies of Equestria
Should lock themselves away
To shun the moon and wait instead
For Sister's sunny day?”

In umbra Luna est (the moon is in shadow)

“Am I so wrong to wish that they
Would see things like I do?
And am I so wrong to think
That they might love me too?
Why shouldn't they adore me?
Is it not within my right?
I'll not be overshadowed!
Mine is not the lesser light!
I've waited long enough now
For them all to come around
And though the Sun may plead and threaten,
The Moon will stand her ground

And all will know the wonder
Of my dark and jeweled sky
When all the world is wrapped
In an eternal lullaby
So say goodnight at this,
The final setting of the sun
Tomorrow dawns in darkness
The nighttime has begun!”

Nocte! (night!)

0 A.N.

It was the night after Celestia had used the Elements of Harmony to trap her sister in the moon, it wasn’t a long battle but Celestia knew she was out classed by her younger sister. Now Celestia sits in front of their destroyed castle staring at the moon she had to raise herself, she had never raised the moon before, let alone trying to place the stars. Which was the reason the only thing in the sky was the moon; it looked so lonely hanging in the sky by itself with no partners or small siblings to accompany it.

Celestia had just realized what it took for her to finally look at the moon once again; it took the imprisonment of her own sister to look to the moon. She also knew that it was not Luna’s fault for what she did, but her own. Celestia knew she should have paid more attention to Luna, for if she had none of this would have happened. As Celestia looked upon the moon the emotions in her decide to flow out.

“Fate has been cruel and order unkind
How can I have sent you away?
The blame was my own; the punishment, yours
The harmony's silent today

But into the stillness I'll bring you a song
And I will your company keep
Till your tired eyes and my lullabies
Have carried you softly to sleep

Once did a pony who shone like the sun
Look out on her kingdom and sigh
She smiled and said, "Surely, there is no pony
So lovely and so well beloved as I"

So great was her reign and so brilliant her glory
That long was the shadow she cast
Which fell dark upon the young sister she loved
And grew only darker as days and nights passed

Lullay moon princess, goodnight sister mine
And rest now in moonlight's embrace
Bear up my lullaby, winds of the earth
Through cloud, and through sky, and through space

Carry the peace and the coolness of night
And carry my sorrow in kind
Luna, you're loved so much more than you know
Forgive me for being so blind

Soon did that pony take notice that others
Did not give her sister her due
And neither had she loved her as she deserved
She watched as her sister's unhappiness grew

But such is the way of the limelight, it sweetly
Takes hold of the mind of its host
And that foolish pony did nothing to stop
The destruction of one who had needed her most

Lullay moon princess, goodnight sister mine
And rest now in moonlight's embrace
Bear up my lullaby, winds of the earth
Through cloud, and through sky, and through space

Carry the peace and the coolness of night

Luna, you're loved so much more than you know
May troubles be far from your mind

The years now before us
Fearful and unknown
I never imagined
I'd face them on my own

Celestia sat on the ground as tears flowed from her eyes with haste, she still could not believe that she had sent her sister away for acts that were not her own. Celestia slowly got up, though the next thousands years would be without her sister she still had to rebuild and run Equestria in her sisters absence. She only thought of two things as she slowly trotted off. ‘We hope one day that thou will for forgive us of our actions and for not showing you the love you deserve. We also wonder if anypony will be aware that you are gone.’

990 A.N.

It had been a long time since Luna had been in the moon and only a little more time was need till she could get out of her prison.

Celestia sat on her balcony looking to the moon still thinking of her dear sister, what she did not notice was the pink filly coming up next to her.

“Auntie Celestia, do you think Auntie Luna knows what love is?” Cadance asked.

“To be honest Cadance I do not know if she does, for she was never truly shown any, even by me most of the time. I just wish I wasn’t so busy back then so I could have shown her.” Celestia answered not taking her eyes off of the moon.

“That’s really sad Auntie Celestia; I think everypony should know what love is. I wish Auntie Luna knew what it was most of all.” Cadance stated.

“Hopefully in time she will dear, but for now how is Twilight?” Celestia asked.

Celestia waited for an answer from Cadance but none came. She looked around to see Cadance with her eyes glowing a bright white as a heart formed on the end of her horn; Celestia could only stare in amazement as the heart grew larger till it finally started to drift towards the moon. After a few minutes Cadance went back to normal.

“Cadance what did you just do?” Celestia asked looking directly at her.

“What do you mean?” Cadance asked confused.

“Never mind how is Twilight?” Celestia asked, trying to take her mind off of what had just happened.

“Oh Twilight is in bed.” Cadance exclaimed.

“Good and you are right behind her.” Celestia stated.

“But Auntie C-“Cadance was cut off before she could finish.

“Ahah, no buts. Little fillies need their sleep.” Celestia cooed.

Cadance turned around without another word and trotted off to her room. Celestia sighed and turned back to look at the moon once more before she herself went to bed.

“Lullay moon princess, goodnight sister mine
And rest now in moonlight's embrace
Bear up my lullaby, winds of the earth
Through cloud, and through sky, and through space”

She sang before she turned around and went to bed herself.

9 years, 11 months, and 29 days later (This is now in first person.)

“Cortana, come on I need a way out of here.” I said while holding off the covenant forces as they worked their way towards us.

“Yes, I know I’m working on… Wait what’s that?” Cortana said.

“What is it Cortana?” I asked ducking behind cover to avoid plasma rounds.

“I’m not sure but whatever it is it has a massive energy reading Colonel… and it is coming our way.” Cortana warned me.

“Where is it?!” I asked as I looked all around.

“It’s right behind us.” Cortana stated.

I looked behind me and saw nothing but forest either way. That is when I heard something I did not want to hear, I heard a plasma mortar being launched from a Wraith.

“Cortana, how is our energy looking?” I asked as I watched the mortar fly into the sky headed our way.

“Well considering we have been in a nonstop fight for five days, not so great.” She stated sarcastically.

“Ha, funny till the end huh, so I am guessing we don’t have enough to take this blast and if we do move I get shot up and die anyway?” I asked as the mortar started on its way down to us.

“That would be correct.” Cortana exclaimed.

“What about the mass of high level energy coming towards us?” I asked as the mortar was almost to us.

“It will get here one second before the mortar does.” Cortana stated.

“Well it looks like this is the end.” I stated looking at the mortar.

The mortar was so close now that it was brighter then the sun, I closed my eyes to welcome the end. Just as I heard the mortar was about to hit I felt myself get tugged into something, I opened my eyes to see a blinding red light consume me.

It felt like I was being stretched to the point of snapping as I flew through a tunnel, it reminded me of the wormhole generators we used on our ships, well at least the ship I was trained on. But I was in the tunnel way to long, I mean we could get across the universe in five seconds flat, but we have been in this tunnel for a few minutes now.

Finally after what had been about ten minutes we came out of the other end, only to end up being about 30,000 feet off the ground. We hurdled through the air as the ground was coming closer, but I managed to flip to my back.

“Cortana would you like to lock my amour please?” I asked as we were getting closer to the ground.

“Maybe.” Cortana responded.

I face palmed, “Cortana just do it!” I yelled only about 2,000 feet from the ground.

“Ok.” She simply said and locked my amour with my palm still on my face.

“Oh, so fucking funny.” I said before we hit.
