Hamlet - The pinnacle of teen angst literature.
373933 Pretty sure that would be "Twilight". At least Hamlet had a reason to brood, what with his murdered father and incestuous mother's betrayal and all. And the only true piece carried as angst is his exposition in Act 3: Scene 1, which is his introspective on suicide. And admittedly, it's actually a very sane and rational — if not overacted — look at such. Bella, on the other hand, is a sniveling whiny bitch who only wants her way, which leads to her running away from home (multiple times) and attempting to harm herself (multiple times) just to get back her emotionally distant, controlling, and abusive boyfriend who she is only interested in because he is hot and dead, which is weird to even type.
Now, Shakespeare's angsty work would be Romeo and That Other Whore (I don't even have to say it, it's so ingrained in our minds). Romeo just gets dumped, thinks life is over, sees a hot chick named Juliet that he doesn't know, immediately falls in love with her (wut), which she friggin' reciprocates almost entirely because of the taboo between their families. Their tryst gets others killed meaninglessly, and they fake their own deaths so they can be together, where things get mixed up and they end up actually killing themselves just to be with their "true love" THAT THEY KNEW FOR MAYBE A WEEK. Tell me that doesn't sound like high school!
Still a better love story than Twilight.
Still closer to BDSM than 50 Shades of Grey.
This has been an educational moment with CosmicWaltz.
