    That's all...? Warning spoilers.

    So saw the premiere of season 7. It's cute and fun, but compared to previous seasons...lackluster. Nothing really happens at all.

    Who the Mane Six remind me of: Rarity

    As a kid my parents and I would often watch old sitcoms and old TV shows, trying to figure out how in this day and age, they can get so much wrong and uninspired. Now granted there are some great shows out there, but the typical sitcom does not manage to have the same level of character, life issues, and or social commentary as many of the old shows.

    Dungeons & Discords---WTF? {Spoiler Warning!}

    Sorry but i just watched the new episode and I've got to say, while i did like the D&D elements that made silly but funny situations, this episode kind of bugged me.

    first off the whole reason Spike and Big Mac asked Discord to join them was because they felt sorry for him... so it seems that the key to friendship in this episode was pity.

Who the Mane Six remind me of: Rarity · 8:20pm Nov 13th, 2016

As a kid my parents and I would often watch old sitcoms and old TV shows, trying to figure out how in this day and age, they can get so much wrong and uninspired. Now granted there are some great shows out there, but the typical sitcom does not manage to have the same level of character, life issues, and or social commentary as many of the old shows.

This got me thinking about MLP, and why do i find it so interesting? What is it about these characters that reminds me a lot of those old shows that i used to (and thanks to the Deja vu channel, still do) watch.

I thought the first character I'd compare was Rarity (one of my top favorites):

Rarity is the element of generosity, or at least the wielder of the element of generosity. As generous as she is, she's also incredibly fashion oriented, a mare of style, class and refinement. Rarity has a flare for the dramatic and she also has a very southern feeling to her. When i was looking at her, i couldn't help but think that there was something oddly familiar about her, some throwback to the old sitcoms of yester year.

And which previous sitcom character did she most reminds me of:

Blanche from Golden Girls.

It's kind of odd to be a male from the 90's and to say, "I like the Golden Girls," but the show was actually quite ingenious for it's time. Much like the mane six in MLP, the Golden Girls were a highly diverse team of characters. Whether it be Dorthy, the intelligent, caring and defacto leader of the group, or Rose, the crazy and always hilariously funny retiree from St. Olaf Minnesota, to the salty and wise cracking Italionao Sofia (mother of Dorthy) and finally Blanche, the refined and modern day Scarlett O'Hara, just without the unpleasantness.

The show often dealt with serious issues, in a comedic way, as well as discussing the issues and experiences of getting old, while still maintaining a life. It was actually the Golden Girls where i first saw a sitcom episode deal with issues like, having self respect, loving yourself first before simply loving other people, and other lessons that i had not seen before, and in many cases still don't.

None shone brighter than Blanche. Like Rarity she is a refined and cultured lady, deep into fashion and dreaming of upper class society. She also has a tenancy to let her imagination dictate her moods and actions, only for the reality to be much different. However, she was a tremendous and generous friend, attentive and caring, willing to do anything for her friends, even if it meant going agaisnt her comfort zone.

Seeing Rarity in the show, always reminded me of Blanche, because they are both great characters, who while on the outside seem to be only superficial and "looks" oriented character, and yet are truly amazing and selfless inside.
