Update on story status, thoughts - 11-12-16 · 11:46pm Nov 12th, 2016
Well, I'll just say that this week...well...let's just say that I haven't felt such a stomach-churning feel of emotion since 2001, and leave it at that. I had thought that that the first major crotiques on my first chapter the week before were tough...
After being mentally thrown to the curb when the first chapter of The Expansive Romance of Applebloom and Coral Leaf hit, I took some solace in several of the persons who had inspired the piece, cheering me on. I guess it's like review sites: the most who review are usually the ones who are very put-off in some ways.
As of now, the positives have outweighed the negatives, and I am hoping to get another chapter up soon. I have heard some want the new chapters asap, though it can be a bit of a strain.
On one hand, I'm writing this for fun and pleasure, so it's not like I have a $50 commission deadlining me to get these out every few weeks.
On another front, to combat quite a few of my inner demons from the early comments and critiques, I found myself considering some other, less-long expansion stories, and have been working on a 'simpler' one involving another MLP pony, and a story concept that has somewhat been tried on the show, but not as outright as I've seen on some other series.
I thought I'd keep it under 3,000, but it looks like it might approach 5,000 words in length. I will admit, I had to mentally cut myself off from doing too many subplots, as it was meant more as an expansion/morality play (and features one of my favorite ponies).
I won't lie that it might beat chapter 2 of TEROABACL to the doorfront, but if anyone wonders if my expansion-romance will finish, I've made a mental vow to do just that. This is a story That I've mentally laid the groundwork for, and each chapter comes with its own challenges of filling in the blanks, which can sometimes lead to character banter...plenty of character banter.
My goal in writing characters, has been to make them sound like the characters we know, but also to write material that sounds like they could actually say it. For example, you wouldn't expect Applebloom to onow the intricacies about baking a huge wedding cake, right?
I was surprised when some found a bit of chapter one ridiculous, and I was thinking to myself, "well, I am writing a fanfic about talking anthro-ponies with oversized sex parts and mammary glands. In a sense, it is already pretty ridiculous."
Of course, Jiminy Cricket in Pinocchio said it best: "Well, you can't please everybody."
