Legend of Everfree - SOME SPOILERS. - Don't read if you haven't watched the movie!!! · 2:26am Nov 6th, 2016
Well kids, I've finally watched Legend of Everfree just a few short moments ago. Have to admit, it was better than I had hoped, a definite improvement over Friendship Games. CHS Twilight has really come a long way and I know the shippers are going bonkers right now with her and Sunset Shimmer...or her and Timber--which was one of the highlights of the movie.
But that ending boy! Can you say "Equestria Girls 5?"
So here's what I liked: SPOILERS!
Twilight - I had some misgivings about Princess Twilight not making an appearance. Her presence is what connected EG to the tv series and her last-minute cameo at the end of Friendship Games gave me hope that Equestria would somehow play a role in the events of LOE. That was not to be. And you know what? I didn't care! CHS Twilight really shone (literally) in this movie. Her misgivings about using magic, especially after becoming Midnight Sparkle, are instantly relatable. The lesson here is that power corrupts and Twilight is fearful that using her magic will only destroy that which she has just come to cherish: her friends. She even sang a song about it, which was lovely, and though I knew what the final outcome would be--believe in yourself, Twilight! yadda,yadda--it was still refreshing to see the writers maintain that level of tension whenever magic was involved.
Sunset - Sunset Shimmer rocks! She really does. Easily my favorite character in the movie, nay, in the EG series, she continues to prove just how far she's come. Who doesn't like a redemption story? Sunset proves to be the heart and soul of the CHS group, is a natural leader, and exemplifies each element of harmony Honestly, Loyalty, Kindness, Laughter, Generosity, and Magic. I really enjoyed the segments with her and Twilight. Most surprisingly of all was her conversation with Flash Sentry. Now I know a lot of bronies hate the poor guy, but I can't help but feel that he was unjustly portrayed as a fool in the last few installments. In the movie, he comes to terms with the truth that CHS Twilight is not the Twilight he fell in love with and moves on...meaning no more painful teenage love scenes with Flash and Twi in the future. Sunset may have let it on thick, but she's a true friend.
Everfree - Let me be straightforward, I did not hate Friendship Games. My main complaint was the unnecessary introduction of so many new characters for the sake of creating a rivalry with CHS. Sugercoat, Lemon Zest and the rest could just as easily have been Chrysalis, Sombra, Discord, and even Starlight Glimmer (being that the movie took place after the events of Season 5). The name EVerfree is synonymous with Equestrian. It's something every brony and pegasister can relate to. Hell, it's an ancient forest brimming with mystical energies. Camp Everfree can just as easily be the site of a future Ponyville in the human world! That connection, much like the Canterlot High setting of the first film is recognizable. Plus, we have only two new characters, Gloriosa Daisy and her brother, Timber. That's it! Not five new girls and their Mrs. Carmody-equse principal.
The ending - The first three movies were all stand alone. They told their story, exposition, rising tension, climax, declining tension, conclusion. That's it. LOE leaves us with a CLIFFHANGER! After the girls get their new powers and save the day, ( and have a kick ass song to end on) Sunset asks Twilight: "Where did the magic that hid the cave come from?" We flashback to CHS, to where the horse statue once stood, back to where it all began, where a crevice opens and Equestrian magic begins to spew forth. O-M-C! they did not just do that!
So in closing, EG 5 is scheduled for next year (I'm guessing). Let's see we have:
Girl goes to high school: Equestria Girls
Battle of the Bands: Rainbow Rocks
The Sports Movie: Friendship Games
The Camp Movie: Legend of Everfree
My prediction for Equestria Girls Five?
