Zero Blogs: Popularity · 5:55pm Oct 27th, 2016
Okay, can someone please explain to me why To Save a Life is so popular? Seriously, I haven't updated in almost FIVE MONTHS and yet it still gets over 50 views every DAY!
That's crazy. I could understand if I left it on a cliffhanger, but I didn't. Sunset had just entered what is arguably the safest area of the Underground so there isn't much tension yet.
So why do people keep reading it? And why do newcomers keep coming? Is it Undertale itself? Is it Sunset Shimmer? Or is it just me and my writing?
While it most likely is a combination of all three, I believe that Sunset being so popular in the fandom plays the biggest part. What I've noticed the most in the fandom, Sunset-wise, is how many people enjoy stories that take place during/after the Anon-a-Miss incident.
I dunno, people love seeing her in depressed phases?
But this type of story, combined with the emotional spectrum that Undertale gives, makes for a compelling story, one that I've been enjoying reading and rereading and waiting with bated breath for the next part. I'm sorry if that sounds like I'm rushing you, because I don't mean to. I've had seasons of taking months to update my story, too, so don't let it stress you out too much.
It is because of the fallen hero turn only to fall to betrayal story. I think readers want to see how far down the dark past someone can go.

If you asked why the story was popular when you were updating, I'd say it was because Undertale and Sunset both have dedicated fanbases and the story itself is good (too early to call it great). It avoids a lot of the usual crossover trappings and is actually suspenseful and well written. As to why it's popular now, probably after the barrage of the new Sunset fics due to Secret of the Everfree, a lot of people probably discovered the character (especially with all the Starlight rants and comparison blogs) and are now going back to older fics, and this one is one of the highest rated Sunset crossovers and is Undertale based (and came out when both were in a bit of a dead zone). The story has a lot of potential, and since season 6 ended, there's plenty of motivation for people to stick around.
i read it cause most of the other undertale fanfics on this site are shite, and this one is adequate, making it a step above the rest
