First things first. If you think that anyone is "evil," because of their political opinions you are a cantankerous waste of space and time and you need to shut up right goddamn now.
I HATE getting political. In this or ANY blog. Because yes, I have political opinions. Some of them might be controversial. But that doesn't matter. Politics don't matter. RESPECT matters. I will always and forever treat anyone I meet with the respect they treat me with. So you can be an insane, SJW, uber feminist, communist. I don't care. Same thing if you're a tea party, gun toting, Trump supporting, conservative. I don't CARE. As long as you respect me, and allow me to disagree without animosity, we'll get along just find.
Jerry... Sorry, "Lily" Peet, USED to have my respect. She really did. She had opinions that were the polar opposite of mine a lot of the time, but I got the feeling that she didn't think I was a complete idiot.
Then last weekend happened.
She proceeded to burn every social bridge she had. Outright HARASSING Josh Burner and his girlfriend for refusing to live in the magical socialist transgender fairly land in which Lily seems to live. Filled to the brim with omnisexual WoW players, and the ritualistic sacrifice of white men, with the only danger being the wily Homophobe, cowering behind every bush.
But this isn't about opinion. Your Fairy Land is yours. We all live in one, and I'm betting NONE OF THEM bare any relationship to what the fuck reality is. Political opinions will eventually boil down to bickering over who has the bigger dragon.
This is not about opinion. This is about conduct.
You wanna break off ties with someone because their political opinions frustrate you to no end? That's fine. I've done it. I remember this one time where I broke off ties with a Pony Analyst because he went insane and started calling random squirrels homophobic. But that should be the end of it.
You do not, EVER, harrass people because they've pissed you off. And that is ALL this was. Harassment. It moved into fucking CYBERBULLYING. Look in the video discription for evidence of that. Yes, to be fair, that is only Josh's side of the story, but why do I don't doubt it?
And I know, I KNOW I'm gonna get comments saying what's wrong is that she's an SJW. Stop. Stop RIGHT NOW. It is that kind of bullshit, third grade name calling that led to this shit. I will not have it here.
The problem is not that she is an SJW. The problem is that he's an ASSHOLE.
And if you think that those equal the same thing, congratulations. You're the problem.
They use to be friends too. Tis very heartbreaking what happened. I use to enjoy watching Lilly too. But what she did to Josh is unforgivable.
I too am highly disappointing in Lily. Not angry, just disappointed. I genuinely enjoy her videos, but I have some problems with her 'one-size-fits-all' solution of jumping to conclusions.
Fluttershy is suffering from a mental illness? Don't give her support like a friend is supposed to do, just send her to a psychiatrist at the first sign of a panic attack. Someone bullying you? Don't try to solve it maturely with communication and authority intervention before resorting to violence, just punch the bully right back and don't expect to get punished.
As for Lily's decision to ban Starlight? I've come to accept that she is a complete hypocrite for giving Adagio the luxury of over analyzing her character, but Starlight is just completely ignored for being 'boring'. Um, hello! Starlight brainwashed an entire town into believing her ideals. And she didn't need magic for anything other than removing the cutie marks to achieve her goals. If not for bad luck on her part, she could have succeeded.
Lily isn't stupid. I know she isn't. And that's what makes this whole thing frustrating for me. Because she's better than this! I know she's better than this!
For all her hatred of Starlight Glimmer, I can't help but see parallels between the two: her friendship ended. And instead of being an adult and moving on, she threw a mad fit and took her anger and hurt out on innocent people.
I'm still subscribed to Lily. I want to believe that she can improve, that she can learn from this an move on. In one of her "In A Minute" videos, she made a joke about "alienating people and burning bridges", to which her puppet, Billy asked, "Are you projecting?"
Just a joke? Maybe. But I'd like to think that this is her acknowledging that she messed up.
