Favorite MLP Characters · 4:20am Sep 29th, 2016
Just an impromptu list, I know lots of people probably have a ton of these, but they're fun to make.
These are both my favorite and least favorite, and when I say least, it's not to say I don't like them, they just don't catch my attention as well whenever they're the focus of an episode.
Most and Least
Out of the Mane 6, my most favorite is Rarity and my least favorite is Pinkie Pie .
I love Rarity the most because I can relate most with her in terms of her personality. I can be very melodramatic; I do have those colorful outbursts whenever a thing doesn't quite go my way, but most importantly, she's an artist, a creator. She thrives on being able to design and sew beautiful dresses and gowns, and I thrive on being able to plan out then write some pretty good short fiction, granted most of this is erotic fics, (anyone interested can check me out on SoFurry, I'm Simplified on there) but I pride myself on being able to create characters that feel human, even though they're furries. xD
Pinkie Pie, I don't hate Pinkie Pie; she can be funny, very entertaining, but then there are moments like in Filli Vanilli, or Games Ponies Play when she becomes the equivalent of dangling keys for your infant child. She's got the potential to be a very grating character when the writers can't seem to do anything more with her than have her be random. She's still got good episodes like Party of One or Maud Pie, but not my favorite.
Of the kid characters, Sweetie Belle and Diamond Tiara both tie pretty close for me as my most favorite.
Sweetie Belle, if I really need to explain, is without a doubt the most consistently adorable, and funny, of the CMC for me. Scootaloo's cool too and Apple Bloom is enjoyable, but Sweetie Belle still has those little moments where she makes the little girl in me squee. Being related to Rarity is another big bonus. x3
Diamond Tiara, I love for just the same reasons. I know everyone before S5EP18 said it was cool to hate Diamond Tiara for what a 1-dimensional bully character she was, but I honestly enjoyed it. Sure, picking on Scootaloo's handicap and making her doubt herself was low even for DT, but I honestly love a villain character like that. And I'm still waiting for MLP to give us a real update on DT post-redemption, and not just a five second cameo with a random background filly. As for my least favorite of the kids, I couldn't really think of one. *nudges Snips to the side*
I won't answer which princess is my favorite, as I'm saving that answer for another thing.
Of the recurring characters, I would say definitely Cheerilee, she's got that sweet, infectious quality to her you don't see in most real teachers. Plus, she's got that sexy teacher angle going for her.
If I didn't like any of the recurring characters, I can't honestly think of any, each character has their own unique qualities about them that just make them so fun to know each time they appear.
Of the background ponies though, that should be a no brainer, that adorable grey pegasus with the crisscrossed gaze, Derpy Hooves. This darling icon of a fandom who took one glance at her, then turned her into a phenomenon all of her own. X3 It is impossibly hard to deny what it is about Derpy that makes us all collectively go "Awww!"
Least favorite background pony... I know the fandom loves him, and they always go crazy bananas bonkers every time he shows up, but I don't get Button Mash.
And finally, favorite villain... I used to roleplay as her. From the first moment I saw her, Queen Chrysalis... She's a giant bug horse thing who can shapeshift and mind rape her victims, and her aura is green! Green is my favorite color! I love this character for what little actual screen time she is actually given. I can honestly say I squealed with glee when I got to see her for those literal two seconds in Times Are a Changeling.
Least favorite villain, and this will seem like a cop-out pick because I know most people would say King Sombra. King Sombra was evil, you knew he was evil and you still enjoyed him for the flat character he really was.
My pick for worst villain is technically not a real villain; he's just one of many one-shot jerks who's appeared through out the show, but he's the one that rubbed me the wrong way. From Season 5, Episode 24, The Mane Attraction, Svengallop, and this for me goes straight to personal preference. I have intense dislike for a character who is nothing but a plot device to drive the story. Svengallop is a Hate Sink character, the character you're supposed to hate because the script says and not because there's a real personality or depth to it. People complain about Sombra being a flat character, but I argue that Svengallop is even flatter, and he's a character with arguably more screen time than Sombra.
And, that was a lot of typing, I hope I didn't ramble too much.
Do any of you agree or disagree with my picks? Let me know, I'm honestly eager to read your thoughts and opinions!
Anywho, this is Freakeasy, aka Simplified, aka Batboy8189 signing off from the Coastal Bend!
