So many fics labeled as "Dark"...what makes them "Dark" if they are unable to evoke emotion or make you think? Oh, gee, your parents have been murdered, OC? Shame. You know, it would be REALLY DARK if you could explain or give insight to how it happened, and maybe as a DARK twist have the OC be the real murderer! THAT'S DARK!
Now, I understand "Dark" does not only revolve around death. It also revolves around abuse, psychological pathology, creepy/unusual behavior and reactions, etc. But I'll be damned if anything labeled "Dark" can be called "Dark" unless it is actually scary or thought-provokingly different. Enough of this one sad part to label it "Dark"! It has to have the "Dark" elements through and through! The character can focus on other things, but that "Dark" must prevail.
Also, , but I'm trying my hoof at "Dark" writing after reading worthwhile fics that fill this niche perfectly.
