Microsoft can go suck an apple · 1:43am Aug 31st, 2016
So, here I am, tying away at the last section of a story I've been working on. Everything's going great; the story's coming along well, the dialogue is working, and I'll finish it in no time. Then something comes up and I'm called away from the computer. I come back half an hour later, and my monitor is showing the computer's log-in screen.
Oh s***.
I log in, get to the desktop, and find that Microsoft had automatically downloaded and installed updates, requiring a restart of the computer without asking me for permission. Everything I was working on is gone. The internet and the tabs I had open? Gone. My word program? Gone.
All the pages I managed to finish today?
Gone.
What's worse is that this isn't the first time something like this has happened, and I feel like an idiot for taking this long to figure out how to disable automatic updates.
Please excuse me while I go destroy something.
*end rant*
Pen and paper and Moleskines and Evernote and Post-It notes are my best friends. Can't ever go wrong with paper, my friend. Just take redundant notes and outline chapters multiple times until you can write it all from memory. Also, smash Ctrl-S like it's pumping the air into your lungs. That helps as well.
4183228 Most horrible part is word16 has F12 not Ctrl+S.
