Anyways, part of being a writer is certainly coming up with theories, headcanons and creating answers to questions the show either brings up and never answers or answers in an inadequate and/or unsatisfactory manner. Since my big thing I'm writing right now involves the Equestria Girls in the Guitars, Sugar, OCs, and Magik universe (yeah that's an homage to the RHCP album Blood, Sugar, Sex and Magik album I had to think up something on the spot and RHCP is one of the best bands ever so I'll name this Anon-A-Miss AU however I please thank you very much). Rambling aside aside, yeah, Equestria Girls... what the fuck with their magic am I right?
And are they going to answer fuck and the what of in the next movie (possibly the last one ever unless hasbro decides to make an Equestria Girls tv show)? Probably not, because fuck you buy their merchandise. 
Anyways, until this is given a canon answer, I've got my own theory. I've broached it in Turn Cruel and I gave my thoughts in the forum in Ponies Go To Heaven, but I'll post it here for viewers to see if they want.
Well that's what makes the magic powers tricky in the human world since the writing staff in the movies basically made them deus ex mcguffins. I mean look at the previews to the new movies. BAM super powers.
HOWEVER. That might support my hypothesis that there is human magic in the world, it's just that the conversion of Equestrian Magic to Human magic is kinda shitty and takes time. But since humans haven't used magic in forever, at the moment it needs a catalyst. Like say a magic crown or a unicorn human who is connected with the elements of harmony and so OBVIOUSLY an alicorn now so what the fuck Hasbro.
I mean, in the human world I'm assuming they have lore filled with dragons and minotaur and junk. Not to mention tales of magic and superstition. So why not? I say it's totally possible that there used to be magic in the human world but because humans suck they burned witches and hunted magical creatures until everything just became fairy tales.
What does this mean for the Equestria Girls world with my theories? Well... eventually, humanity is going to tap into magic again. Sunset Shimmer still has her Equestrian Magic, it's just slowly converting to human magic just like how she changed from a pony to a human. So when it converts and she figures out how to tap into it welllllll... let's just say with all this, things are going to get interesting.
