A word of caution... · 7:12pm Aug 1st, 2016

If you're playing World of Warships, please watch for other players on your team before firing your torpedoes... please?

Yeah, probably not what you were expecting.

Anyway, a couple of days ago me and a friend were playing the game in question (lower tier, level 2, 3, 4 level kind of battles) on a map (Solomon Islands) with two large islands in the center of the map, dividing the map in two except for the edge and the center (where there is a capture point, B). I was playing a cruiser (Tenryu Japanese tier 3 ship) and was going for the capture point in the middle.

Unfortunately, one of the destroyer captains on our team (we were playing Co-op battles against the AI) was either too greedy for kills or didn't notice (I'm not putting up his name here, so don't get any thoughts about a witch hunt) that I and a number of other players were there and blindly fired torpedoes into the central area, hitting me (in the stern), my friend, and possibly a third ship (I didn't personally see it, but my friend did, hence the 'possible'), as well as bumping into an allied ship beforehand when the match was starting (only took four HP damage for colliding with another ship).

Nobody died directly from this, but I noticed he fired two or three barrages of torpedoes down this central area, apparently not noticing the friendly fire he had inflicted or the other friendly players he was putting at risk. Partly as a result of the damage I took from the allied torpedoes, I died facing an AI-controlled Myogi-class battleship (not without blasting him with torpedoes and guns and ripping half his health away; the AI in Co-op battles is not renowned for being smart) with a considerable amount of my health having been taken out from the friendly torpedo hit, a death that might have been negated if the destroyer player had been more careful. At least me and my friend and a possible third ship suffered damage from the torpedoes and a fourth was blamed by the team-damage system for inflicting damage on the destroyer (the system seems to blame the biggest ship when there is a collision, in my experience, though I could be wrong).

I'm not holding it against the destroyer captain; it was a game and I found the circumstances funny, as did my friend, nor do I consider the damage to have been a deliberate, malicious action. However, I know that a lot of people would not deal with the situation in the same way, and if this happens again the ending might not be as happy. If you ever play this game (or any that has friendly fire damage turned on), please be careful where you fire, especially when you're aiming and firing torpedoes. Team damage as a result of carelessness or hunger for a kill (or for most reasons) hurts the team's overall chances of winning and reduces the firepower available, not to mention its unsporting conduct and isn't taking into account the real people playing the game.

Please play responsibly :twilightsmile:

Edit; Otherwise, this might happen;

Edit 2; see 1:45 - 2:04 for what I'm talking about.

I swear sometimes destroyer captains can be as bad as big fat stupid battleships.

4126514 My battleship skills still need some major work, though (and still room for improvement on cruisers too); I get sunk by hostile torpedoes too often at it is.

4126762 It's just hard to remember to look around. It sounds like common sense but adrenaline is a powerful thing.

4126918 Yeah, it's easy to forget, no matter how much Jingles talks about it in his videos. I mean, I don't go into battle trying to get torpedoed, but it happens nonetheless.
