I'm moving to Charlottesville! Anypony got a room?

Just a quick post to say that I'm moving into Charlottesville, VA following a job offer, and I'm checking to see if any bronies in the area have an available room to rent. (It's an expensive town, with the most affordable rooms seeming to be off-campus dorms/condos, and if I end up needing to find a roommate I'd prefer a dork along my own interests, you know?) There are UVA bronies, right? Of

    Brony Book Club Podcast

Hey, do you like my stories, but wish you could hear my stuttering, awkward voice as I try to break the world record for the number of "uh's" in a single sentence? No? Well, here it is anyway.

    Dramatic Reading!

Okay, call me Slowpoke since this was posted way back in February, but someone by the name of VozDeSuenos has done a dramatic reading of the first part of Ponies Play D&D!

    A Gift for Poultron

Someone pointed out to me a while ago that FiMfiction Mod Poultron has said some very flattering, but almost certainly inaccurate things about my story, Ponies Play D&D. He and I actually chatted in the Google Docs chat bar back when I posted the very first act of Part 2, before FiMfiction even existed and the fandom was young and... well, mostly just

Hey, do you like my stories, but wish you could hear my stuttering, awkward voice as I try to break the world record for the number of "uh's" in a single sentence? No? Well, here it is anyway.

Seriously, I had a great time recording this. I was really flattered that they chose my story, of all the ones available, to represent the 'normal' category (Well, second choice. Close enough for me!). Listen for a sneak peek at what's coming up next in Ponies Play D&D. Also, hear me talk smack about human-in-Equestria stories, only to find out later that the author of Anthropology is scheduled to be on the show next week, thus potentially starting some sort of inter-genre author beef with JasonTheHuman. Speaking of which, Jason, if you're reading this, keep in mind that I'm a weak and cowardly fighter and I bleed like a bruised tomato, so there's no honor in beating me.

In all seriousness, I feel like I might have overstated my dislike of HiE stories and may have come off as a bit arrogant to their fans, for which I wholeheartedly apologize. I don't think such stories *can't* be done well, I've just read enough that *weren't* done well to make me leery of the genre as a whole. I could quite easily be wrong, so I think I'll listen in to the next podcast to see if Jason can change my mind.

Okay, enough drama, back to ponies. See you on the next update!

There are no bad genres, only bad authors. Never forget that fact.

340341 Very true. I think I was stretching a bit in order to come up with an interesting answer to the question, to be honest. I was really talking more about how I'm glad there are no human characters in the show, rather than how I feel about human characters in fanfics. And honestly, I'd love to be proven wrong about this. Guess I'll start reading Anthropology and see if that doesn't shake me loose from my prejudices.

340378 Sounds like I've got some homework. :pinkiehappy:

I agree that the show is far better off without human characters.

As for good HiE, most of the ones I find tolerable or good are Crossovers. It's harder to write those badly or put in silly things, since you would need to make the characters of 2 universes OOC, and they tend to reenforce each others' integrity.

For non-crossover HiE, it's much harder. There are only actually 4 that I read and recommend out of the entire fandom:
Tinker, Tanner, Hunter, Spy by Shamus_Aran
ARTICLE 2 by Muppetz
WD: The HiE Experiment
The Brony International Guard and The Brony Guard Unlimited by PsychicScubaDiver

There is also Through the Eyes of Another Pony by CardsLafter which I actually don't recommend currently reading as it is undergoing a simultaneous rewrite and and installment releases of the concluding chapter to the current arc.

And I haven't read Anthropology either, but eventually plan to.

Sorry I was trying to edit that post and deleted it.

340385 No biggie.

I'm partial to "Regular ol' Human in Equestria". Not "Brony in Equestria". That just dumb, bro.
