A Hearth's Warming Tail Review: SOOONNNNNNNNNNNNGS · 4:02am May 15th, 2016

I remember saying this way back in season 5. But so this is where all the songs went.

Oh look, we have all the background ponies preparing for Hearthswarming eve, yay. Canon-shipping Lemon Hearts?! Also, Muffins ya derp :derpytongue2:

Oh hey! It's Starligh-

Oh haha, you're just kidding right?

Right?

RIGHT?!!?

>Title sequence plays

...

Twilight's favorite Hearthswarming story? Here we go then...

This episode is basically turning into The Grinch. And wow, this RD parallel has... an interesting mane style.

Song #2!

Ghost Applejack:

MORE SONGS!

Flutterholly. Kill me. Kill me now. :facehoof:

Pinkie... whatever her name is in this episode has become very good at theatrics.

LUNNNNNNNAAAAAAA!!!!! FANBOYS REJOICE!

Wait a sec. Why was Applejack the only ghost spirit? I'm having dark thoughts right now. Oh wait, it's cuz she's the spirit of Hearthswarming past. I need to pay attention to dialogue more. Although said dark thoughts weren't technically wrong...

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAH THIS IS EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPICCCCCCCCCCCCC

Although, not epic enough.

It was all over... too soon.

>Spits out drink. "BOSS?!"

Ha. Haha.

And so here the story comes to an end, with a final song.

Hm.

Hmmmm.

This episode was... I want to like it, but it's not quite there for me. Why? The songs. Sorry, but they're not very good. They're pushing the lyrics too hard, and having to sacrifice the song itself to make it work. The songs feel more akin to toned speech than proper melody. Luna's song in the beginning sounded like it'd be spectacular, but it just ended up the same as everything else.

The story in principle was pretty good, and it was a nice parallel to The Grinch, but once again I feel like the story was compressed beyond what it should've been. Of course twenty-two minutes isn't the greatest amount of time to tell a story in, but even so, it's just not as impactful as it could be.

An episode that rides on songs has songs that aren't that great. It's somewhat disappointing, sadly. Oh well, it's not the end of the world.

3.5/10
