Hardcover talks about plot: Gauntlet of Fire · 7:33pm Apr 16th, 2016
Gauntlet of Fire was SO GOOD but SO QUICK. The premise was awesome, the new lore was awesome, the cameos and new characters were great, but there was too much to cram into a 20 minute timeslot.
I really like Ember because she’s a realistic double to Spike. Strong and smart, but still small and condescended to, not to mention female. But before the shipping begins, as it should, it’s just a shame that her character had to come out so quickly. Not even two minutes pass after she abandons Spike before she’s rescuing him again, and it would have been nicer to see them interact more. While I understand that Rarity and Twilight were necessary for the plot, I think some of their lines and interactions could have been cut to make room, not that it would be enough. Ember will have to return to have a truly satisfying character arc.
However, I also like Garble as a villain. He’s just a bad dude, and sometimes that’s okay. He doesn’t need nuance to do his job. I still find it funny that Spike immediately abused his power as soon as he got the scepter before throwing it away. His only act as king was to humiliate Garble. Nice.
Bara dragonlord is new fave.
