Today we venture into the perverse and outright weirdness known as Bronies' Minds. We tackle the oft-assumed headcanon shown above: Rainbow Dash (and gender-switched Rarity) being gay. (Gender-switching, or genderbending, is the fanon act of creating an alternate universe where female characters are born male and vice versa.)

Bronies seem to assume that Rainbow Dash and male!Rarity are gay because A. their personalities fit in with the popular stereotype that gay women are more manly while gay men are more feminine, and B. Rainbow Dash's mane might as well be a #gaypride flag.(I swear, while I definitely support LGBT rights now, the whole rainbow symbolism thing has spoiled rainbows for me.)
Their thought process is based on the gender "norm" in society's eyes that feminine traits are for females and gay men only and no self-respecting straight man would be caught dead loving clothes and making dresses. Notice that Rarity as a mare is almost never subject to such assumptions; in fact, nearly all of her ships are heterosexual--whereas Rainbow Dash's only hetero ships, as far as I can tell, are SoarinDash, DumbbellDash, RainCord, and MacDash (the latter sounds like something you'd buy at McDonalds). (ILoveKimPossibleALot talks about this topic in one of her videos, and she makes some good points, too.)

Of course, since the show probably will never address this in canon, the ponies' sexuality is up for personal interpretation. But please don't base your opinion on such misinformation as the stereotypes shown above.
Why?

First of all, while there are exceptions to every rule and everyone is different, for the most part lesbians and gays are just like everyone else--they just prefer to love and have sex with a person of the same gender. A gay man doesn't necessarily act like...say...Magnus Bane. (LOVE YOU, MAGNUS, AND YOU'RE ONLY A LITTLE STEREOTYPICAL.) A gay woman doesn't necessarily act like Merida from Brave. Some might, but for the most part their personalities are just as diverse as straight people's are.

Now, you might be thinking: "But (censored for privacy)! You're being a hypocrite! You ship FlutterDash! Fluttershy is a mare, remember?"

Well, I don't actually ship it all that much, as hinted by my "to an extent" aside. I think it's adorable, and I don't mind the fanfics about it. But, seeing as Fluttershy's shy, gentle nature seems to annoy Rainbow more than soften her edges (in the show), as most FlutterDash shippers suggest would be the dynamic for the couple, it's not an OTP for me.

In short, I don't care for this GAYnbow Dash/ Gaylusive headcanon. It doesn't make much sense when you take your stereotype lenses off, and it's downright sexist.
