What Really Grinds My Gears #5 · 7:28pm Feb 20th, 2016
You know what really grinds my gears?
The fact people are starting to publish their Fan Fictions! First off, there's no market for cheesy fan fictions, maybe for whoever is in the fandom which, let's face it, isn't a lot of people. This is probably one of the most money grubbing, sell out things I've ever heard. Selling physical copies of fanfictions. I don't know if the people have a brainstem or not but can I remind you that you can just download the stories as a document or PDF and have it on your phone or computer? If you're that desperate to have a PHYSICAL copy, then just print the documents instead of spending this amount of cash for a crappy hardcover!
Writing fan fiction isn't a job. It's a hobby. Actual creative writing, if done right, and you're an official author, not an online author, then you have the job as an author and the ability to publish your work. This, this is just foolish to me.
3766646 Exactly, that's what I mean. If he changes the names from Twilight and Scootaloo to Jessica and Kelly, then I have no problem with it. Yeah, knowing it's original form, I won't really get over that fact, but I guess I could be more lenient on it if that were the case.
Yea, honestly that idea is just pointless. Unless the fic is extremely good like Fallout:Equestria (which probably would only sell about 1000 or so copies), I don't see the benefit of things like this.
Also your just gonna dis the fandom all the time now aren't you? There is still TONS of bronies in the world.
3767012 No, I'm not going to diss the fandom while I'm here. That would be quite foolish really. It's like going into a lion's den with a necklace of raw beef around your neck. No, I'll just point out the things that don't seem right. Not because it's a part of the brony fandom, but because it sounds foolish. Like what we're talking about here with the books. Any fan fiction published as a physical book is just idiotic.

Then again, Hollywood will make anything into a movie if they put their money-grubbing minds to it.

Honestly, my take on fanfic writers who want to get money from their work should stick to writing their own fiction. I could kinda understand fallout Equestria getting a hard copy printing, even though I myself don't like the fic. I also feel that fanfic writers who use patreon or commissions for their fanfics are extremely conceited, and would never give money to them under any circumstance.
3767161 Exactly. It's making money off of the original franchise which (correct me if I'm wrong) can be taken to court. People *cough* The Abyss *Cough* who make money off writing fan fictions are, in my opinion, are only in on it for the money and nothing more. And there's nothing more shallow than that. If they want to make money off writing books, actually come up with something original.

yeah, but hey, we live in a world that values your pay grade, so I guess if you make more money doing something illegitimate, there's a value to it.
