chapter 1 terms and info · 9:55pm Aug 23rd, 2012
Okay, for every chapter I will make a terms and info blog post, describing places and things that are only mentioned or not elaborated on within the chapter.
Year that story takes place: 6268
Skyharbor- A skyharbor is the term used to describe a relatively low hanging satellite built with the intention of being a "dock" for a planet. Because most supply ships and large system transport ships are extremely large (They can be up to 20 miles long), It is basically impossible for one to land on a planet once put into space. So skyharbors, along with the aid of skyharbor-planetside teleporters, allow for ease of transport of goods and people from planetside to an intergalactic starship.
The Great War- The Great war is another name for the war with Hergzine. Hergzine is another large galactic empire, like the H.G.A., except less... "benevolent". They instigated the war, which started in 6188 and ended in 6204. Though it was an H.G.A. victory, it claimed over 100 trillion H.G.A. lives.
The H.G.A.- A galactic alliance that includes 14 billion inhabited worlds, 400000 sapient species, and 2 quadrillion citizens as members. They were founded in the year 3594 in orbit of the Earth onboard a ship called "The Grand Tomorrow".
Yes, Fluttershy is the prime minister. She is the 4th pony to hold the office, which was created when Celestia and Luna restructured the government to accommodate their new found positions of system representatives in the region's local star council.
No, ponies do not speak English. They're vocal cords aren't capable of matching the sounds of our languages. On the flip side, we cannot physically speak their language either. Either side can, however, learn to understand both the written and vocalized language of the other group. The most common language barrier solution is to simply use a translator.
Ian traveled about 30000 light years to reach Equestria. It took him 4 months to complete the journey. The average FTL for a starship capable of those speeds is about 115000 times the speed of light.
