Ten Years · 1:50pm Feb 13th, 2016
Ten years. I just realized that I've been writing fanfiction for ten years now. Nearly 600,000 words published. And where has it gotten me? A trifling ten followers for each story I've written? Virtually every story I've written being either panned in its reviews or, at best, a resounding "meh." There are a great many authors here with a mere fraction of my experience that have proven themselves far superior writers.
It's time to face facts. I'm just not good at this. At least not at all talented. I've gone about as far as experience can go. Leaving me with structurally sound, properly formatted and written piles of... meh. I'll never go any further. There is no more experience for me to gain significant strides and no talent to build upon. Sure, there is always more to learn, but subtle nuances aren't going to suddenly make my stories and style suddenly seem good.
Now, I'm not hanging up my hat just yet. I have a few stories yet to finish. But I've come to a realization. An epitome, if you will. Why should I try so hard to make them perfect, when they'll never be any better than mediocre anyway?
I'll post that chapter of Cold Streets, as is, just as soon as I work up the motivation to do so. Expect more story updates in the near future.
Err, weren't you featured more than once by now? That's hardly a "meh".
Ten years? What other things were you writing about other than My Little Pony then?
3751358 There is nothing special about the feature box. Sure a lot of the stories that end up there are good, but the chances are nearly as well that absolute drivel will end up there.

An obscure anime called Azumanga Daioh.
I know exactly how you feel about that plateau, and it sucks.
If you enjoy writing, write. If you write for recognition or praise, you are fighting a losing battle. Believe me, I know.
Hang in there!
