PROGRESS: Wicked... World of Wracraft, Wheel of Time, and Thrift. · 1:10am Jan 28th, 2016
I genuinely want to meet the GM that unloads their stuff through Goodwill. It is through the mighty thrift I have obtained Holylands, Redemption, and Wheel of Time merchandise, not to mention hardcover Warriors books, and Bradygames strategy guides that could easily be used for similar such material. I realize most of these things can probably be found in HTML or PDF format on the internet, and clearly I can understand no longer needing it after it's been used, but all the same I tend to keep reference material on hand in hard copy because I know how unreliable soft copy typically is. Forgive me for assuming I might want to look at it again in 15 years. Naturally, WOT 'Prophesies of the Dragon' takes all the guess work out of the experience of planning one of those things gamers do when they set up a cabal to gain seven levels of experience, save knowing or learning the hellish languages, words, names, and locations one can easily supplant with more memorable alternatives like Manhattan and Terrorist.
The other day I picked up Gregory Maguire's Wicked on audio cassette. So far I've listened through two cartridges and it gave me the opportunity to look over The art of World of Warcraft:Cataclysm and I'll probably be going through other art books, emphasis on the art, while I listen to it (Wicked that is). Surprisingly, I actually think World of Warcraft enhances Maguire's OZ experience in a manner not unlike Pink Floyd's Dark side of the Moon... Even though I found the later experience incredibly boring it was still kind of fun, and I stopped watching shortly after Dorothy fell into the pigpen. Fun is what you can have by looking at World of Warcraft arts while you listen to Wicked, the audio book. And, like books in the wicked series, the World of Warcraft covers are arguably better than their dust jackets. Dust jackets which I assume can be used for textbooks or in my opinion schlocky Eden Studios hardcover roleplaying games. Yes, you too can save yourself the embarrassment of having purchased a book that falls apart after being opened four or five times by finding World of Warcraft art books at your local thrift. Although, I do believe I might eventually purchase a hardcover Dragon Age Inquisition book, assuming it's the right size and everything, only because it looks incredibly awesome.

I'm definitely moving forwards anyway. The latest project involves the St. Martins handbook. Priority wise I should have had the game books finished in November, the writing books in December, and ideally I'd have finished the DSM in October. But, it didn't work out that way, and I was just really looking forward to having nothing to do with my free time except play video games, writing, doodling, and mastering the guitar among other creative arts projects. I even have a collection of sheet music that's been building up since 2008. Which is ironic because I only know lead guitar, I never did master the chords...

I definitely like reading. I'm going to see about improving my writing skill before I start looking for editors. I'm a big fan of and prefer self editing, but in order to understand another point of view and be clearly understood one needs to be other oriented (or altercentric). Empathy and cognitive complexity will only take you so far. Rapport with others is closer to trust than subjugation or obedience.
