Zero Blogs: Shadowbolts in Shineverse · 3:44am Jan 12th, 2016
I said before that once the Shinverse gets underway, that the characters at Crystal Prep will be used as major storyline antagonists for our heroines (and hero). I already have Cinch's role in mind as well as a few others, so that's not a problem. The problem I DO have however, is with the Shadowbolts.
Now, I've already established Crystal Prep as a very unpleasant place to attend: social interaction is against the rules, students are encouraged to be cold and cutthroat, and Cinch treats the students with varying degrees of contempt. Only Cadance being in charge keeps it from being completely unbearable.
See, that alone is enough for a Slice-of-Life conflict. Just contrast the members of the Shadowbolts with their counterparts on the Rainbooms like I did here. Perhaps they could be convinced to turn on the established credence and change it for the better.
And then there's my Adventure idea.
Now as you've seen with Shine and will see with To Save a Life, I put a lot more emphasis on the physical aspect of my conflicts. Mainly because at heart, I am a 22-year old man who loves sword fights, giant robots, superheroes, and fantasy in general. And even when the fights aren't physical (both Searing and Adagio have fought verbally), there's always some form of confrontation involved. The confrontation I had in mind for the Shadowbolts was something like this.
Basically, they'd be used as counters for the Rainbooms, taking their positive traits and using them negatively.
One idea puts more emphasis on character by focusing on the Bolts individually while the other focuses more on the group as a whole. And I'm not sure which one is the better option.
What about you?
