Vacation and Retro week · 10:52pm Aug 19th, 2012
I had a meltdown about my writing recently and decided I need a break from creative endevours.
Also I'm on two weeks vacation starting yesterday so now I need stuff to do. I'd already decided to watch a bunch of old movies: The Rocky Movies, Back to the Future, Some Universal Horror Movies, The KArate Kid, and the mroe recent Lord of the rings Trilogy.
Now I've decided what Else I'm going to do, Retro games, but nto any retro games, retro computer games: Apogee sidescrollers, golden age space sims, the original Empire Earth... Games I used to read about in PC gaming magazines and drooled over but never could hope to play since my computer was a piece of shit back then (even by the then standards of gaming PCs) and I had no money. However I recently stumbled across Commander Keen on Steam and now GoG.com, a site that lets me downlaod and play so many of these games, I've been drooling over it ever since.
So yeah, old movies and old PC Games. I may like consoles but I started with PC games so that's my native land: adventure, space sims, strategy, games that don't show up much on consoles, at least in my experience. I'm going to have a lovely nostalgia trip this week.
I've got a DOS emulator on this thing so I can play uber oldschool games.
Including the games I have no reason to care about, like Oregan Trail (being Australian and all).
Command and Conquer, Advance Wars and Ace Combat! That's the perfect medley for me! All war, all have great music and good stories!
Silver out!
