[Review] Star Wars: The Force Awakens (No Immediate Spoilers!) · 9:47pm Dec 20th, 2015

...I don't have any words to describe this movie. Okay, well, yes I do, but they're words I cannot speak to you at the moment. If someone here somehow doesn't know, I am a huge fan of the Star Wars franchise. I have books, toys, collectors editions, a lightsaber, the lot. I love each of the original trilogy and, like most fans, dislike the prequels. So you can tell I know my shit when it comes to stuff like this. But this movie... This goddamn movie...

From this point, I'll be spoiling the film shitless. Like a nice person, I've placed a spoiler bar over the entire review so you don't have to read it and just skip to my final verdict. With that being said, this is my nice, calm review of the movie...

HOLY F**KING SHIT THIS MOVIE IS THE BEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE!!!! What is there not to like?! The characters are fleshed out and feel like they're really people that could have existed, the acting is top-notch, the humor is timed just right, the action is superb and the story? Holy FUCK the story is incredible! You may think I'm just over exaggerating when I say this, but believe me when I say it's just that good. I cannot believe how amazing this movie is! I'd even go so far as to say it's one of my favorite movies of all time! Oh my god, where do I even begin with this?

First off, the story. Rey is a scavenger on the planet Jakku, a dusty world that kinda looks like Tatooine but kinda isn't in a way? She finds BB-8, a BB type astromech droid with a key component to finding hidden Jedi Master, Luke Skywalker. Along her adventure, she meets a plethora of characters new and old, and with them, she must stop the evil First Order, commanded by the mysterious Kylo Ren, with the help of the Resistance, as well as deal with other issues revolving around herself and her place in the galaxy. That's all I can say even in the spoiler bar. If I continued, people would be pissed at me, so I'm not going to risk it. Right off the bat, I love the story. It's reminiscent of Luke Skywalker's journey, yet it still has a twist to it that allows it to become it's own plot. References to past movies are nice, but the movie also creates new things, meaning the film isn't tiring or boring in any way. I cannot tell you how many times I just had to stop myself for a moment just to look at everything. There are also some nice twists, but again, I won't go into that.

And don't worry, there aren't any "Midi-chlorians" in this movie.

Each and every character is life-like; you FEEL as if they're really there. There is so much personality between everyone that you wish they were alive. Each and every form of comedy is really funny, and every bit of heartfelt feels are delivered perfectly. That's not to say everything's perfect, however. Sometimes, the writing and acting can be irksome at times, and it's not enough to ruin the film, but it is certainly noticeable. However, these awkward moments are few and far between, so we have nothing to worry about.

My two favorite characters in this movie are Poe Dameron and Kylo Ren. Poe is an X-wing pilot who hails from the planet Yavin IV. Yes, the same planet in which the battle against the death star was held. He was sent on a mission to retrieve the final piece of the map that leads to Luke Skywalker. Although the Resistance puts a lot of faith in him, he's still cocky and likes to act like a smartass, even going as far as to looking Kylo Ren in the eyes and treating him like shit. But he's also shown to be caring and considerate, as such when speaking to BB-8 or Finn. I love him so much and I hope to see him again soon in the upcoming movies!

Kylo Ren is a fantastic villain. Probably not as good as Darth Vader, but that opinion may change with the upcoming films. He's just that good. Ren is a masked Sith who... what? Too much like old DV? Well, don't worry about that, because Kylo is anything but Darth Vader. Sure, he can be calm and patient with people, and damn-well intimidating as well, but he's known to have some... anger issues. Whenever something doesn't go the way he wants it, he starts destroying stuff with his lightsaber in fits of anger. This is a man who has clearly not grown up yet, and it's interesting, dare I say refreshing, to see a villain who likes to act all tough, but deep down is still just a little brat. That's not to say he isn't scary, however. Trust me, you'll see what I mean in the first few minutes of the movie.

Well, those are just my two favorite characters. The others are still amazing in their own right, and I hope to see more of them soon. But not too soon, just... soon-ish. Y'know, wait a few years before you try to stop my heart again. I should probably also talk about the romance and feels and stuff, right? Well, I could, but it'll give away more than I really want to spoil. Let's just say that's amazing as well and you'll see why when you watch the film.

How could I go without talking about the action and the music? Each is amazing in their own rights, and even timed just so well. The action leaves you on the edge of your seat, waiting for what might happen next and who'll live, and the music, composed by the legendary John Williams, is spectacular. While perhaps not his best work, it's certainly memorable, happy, sad, and even scary at times. By god that man is amazing... Anyway, trust me when I say that if you're a big action and music fan, you will NOT be disappointed.

This is not a perfect movie by any means. A bit of the acting delivery is iffy and the writing can be questionable as well, but those problems are few and far between. Everything else is amazing, from the action to the characters to the humor and the feels, is absolutely incredible. This is currently the best movie of 2015, and certainly one movie you don't want to miss. I'm looking forward to Episode VIII when it comes out in a few years!
