Writing is Hard · 10:20pm Dec 11th, 2015
Especially when you plan to make more of a novel instead of a short story. But hopefully, I'm nearing completion of my prologue and the first chapter. I realize that the first chapter is not going to be terribly exciting, but I'm using them to set the scene. Everyday life, y'know? But I plan to move forward with the plot by chapter two. The issue here is I'm trying to limit myself as to what I add to the first chapter because there is some potential comedic value I want to add and expand upon, but doesn't have much to do with the story itself. I'm now currently 20 pages in and over 8,000 words into the story. I want to keep the prologue and first chapter combined to be under 25 pages long (by my format that I'm using to write).
I hope to be finished writing them by the time the weekend is over. I've been attempting to keep myself from getting distracted from chatting with friends over Skype and playing games, focusing only on other real life matters that demand attention (like my mom, homework, chores, ect). It has been to my advantage as I nearly doubled what I had before this week. But even when I finish what I've got, I still need to go over it a second time, trim out redundant bits, and pass it on to my editor for proof reading. But hopefully, if all goes well, I'll have this done and published by Monday. Then in the second chapter, I'll move forward with the plot and send the protagonist off on the start of his "hero's journey."
I hope you guys will enjoy what I have in store. Again, forgive me if the first chapter isn't the most high action piece of fiction you've ever read.
