The Bird is the Word

I did say I was going to review Friendship Games, didn't I? My bad. I meant to, but studies piled up quick with the extra hours at work, plus a few personal events, kept that from happening. To put it simply, Friendship Games was okay. Not abysmal like the first film, but not quite as awesome as Rainbow Rocks. My main peeves are the lacking screentime for the Shadowbolts and the ending (Geez, Twi, reconcile with your squad at CP, not transfer to CHS).

With that out of the way, there was one thing I did enjoy from it. Flash Sentry only got a major role in the short Banner Day, where we saw some character development in the form of quickness to anger, mild egotism, hopeless romantic, and a bit of a pretty boy, as well as interaction with kids other than Twilight and the gang. The film itself has less for him to offer, but it's something establishing nonetheless: a likely friendship with everyone's favorite best friends, Lyra and Bon Bon.

Aside from his couple of (literal) run-ins with Sci-Twi, Flash doesn't hang out with anyone else beyond these two, as seen during the welcome party. Hell, he's even teamed up with Bon Bon during the home ec portion of the Games. Surprise! This opens up possibilities for the lot of them in future films and shorts. Building up a friendship between the three and adding upon their characterizations are obvious, but also the potential beginnings of breaking Flash away from being a satellite character and into his own person. And not just in the films, but in fanworks, too. I understand he's not the most appealing of characters, but then again, many background ponies started off without personalities before we work some in, so why not do the same here? Anywho, it'd be cool to see who can write a good fic featuring the three. A slice of life, a love triangle, who knows? Hell, maybe comedic shenanigans like this:

Huh... the more I look at it, the more I want to write something based off it...
