A couple of thoughts on the S5 finale · 3:39pm Dec 1st, 2015

So last night, I forewent some sleep to finish off season 5, and after watching it, I've got a couple of things I'd like to share about it. Big spoiler warning for anyone who hasn't seen it yet and would like to keep themselves unspoiled. Now's your chance to bail.

So overall, it was an enjoyable finale. Lots of cameos, not too terribly inconsistent with the workings of the timey wimey stuff, and a pretty threatening villain (albeit a bit weak in terms of motive). All in all, can't complain too much. However, the cameos began to feel a bit too fan-servicey, and there were a few small things I'd've done a little differently that I think would have made the episodes just a tad better. Maybe you'll agree. More specifically, there are three changes I would have made, one in the Discord future, one in the NightMare Moon future, and one in the glorious of Her Majesty the Queen (of the Changelings...not the Queen of England...or some other queen...just thought I'd clarify).
In the NightMare Moon future, when Dash takes off her helmet to yell at Twilight, I feel like NMM should have ordered her to shut up. To me it just...seems like what should have happened. Secondly, I feel like there should have been a couple of lines where Twilight tells NMM that she's from a future where Luna and Celestia have worked past their differences and rule together, to which NMM would take a moment to contemplate it and acknowledge that "That sounds...nice," (that's what I'm imagining her line would be if this was in the episode) before resuming being NMM. A moment like this would have been nice to have just to show that NMM isn't completely maniacal.
In all honesty, my proposition here for the Discord future would probably be more detrimental to the episode that anything, and is more just something I would've liked to have seen, mostly because I want to see Discord get more involved with things. Before Twilight uses the scroll and map to leave the Discord future, I would have like to see Discord interrupt her for a moment to have a short chat, with alternate-future Discord for some reason being already fully aware of who Twilight is, what the situation is, and wanting to help (but not solve the issue for her)(and the explanation for Discord's behavior would be because Discord; that's really all that's needed. We can assume that he's aware of regular-future Discord and how much happier he is by having friends). His help would come in the form of telling Twilight that she can't beat Starlight Glimmer, but also noting that Starlight is short-sighted, advice which would later lead Twilight to solve the issue as she did. But yeah, as much as I'd've liked to see Discord do something, there are definitely issues with this idea.
And finally we get to the Chryssy future. Couple of minor nitpicks here first: 1) Chryssy's voice isn't all resonant and cool and stuff like it was before, which needs to get fixed next time Chryssy shows up, and 2) Twilight should not know Chryssy's name. And even when Fluttershy namedrops Chryssy after Pinkie calls Twilight out on being a changeling, Twilight should have at least been like, "Who's Chrysalis?" or "Queen Chrysalis? That's the changeling queen's name?" before just assuming she knew who they were talking about. For all Twilight knew, Chryssy was some other big changeling completely unrelated to the one that had invaded Canterlot.
But those are just gripes. Where I feel the episode really missed out was right after Zecora outted Chryssy's Applejack disguise. Right after Chryssy changed back to herself, she should have still had AJ's hat and said something like this:
"My hat's off to you for seeing through my disguise so quickly, Zecora." [tosses AJ's hat at Zecora] "Or rather, Applejack's is. [smugly smirking] That's Applejack's hat. I wasn't lying when we said we attacked Ponyville."
I would have loved to see an interaction like that. Just something small like that would go a long way in making Chryssy both more menacing and more fun to watch, and it'd get some of that characterization done with for when see Chryssy again for real.
So those are a few ways the finale would have been different if I'd've done it. But overall, I can't help but feel like it was a satisfying conclusion to the season. Let's hope that Chryssy showing up is a sign that they haven't forgotten about her for season 6.

But but I wanted to get out before I got spoiled.... wat I already watched the "ending" two parter right?
The one where nothing really interesting happens, with the most lame "villain" since the invention of Disney slaughtering ncie and honest Grimm collected storys... (really every time I watched some of those I was shocked how lame they are... no blood and gore... hell not even much death! Maybe Disney'll do a short one of the Stuvelpeter! that one I want to see them deperately trying to make "childfriendly" for all those kids.)
But uhm.. it wasnt a bad thing... maybe. At least I had a few seconds of my beloved Queen!
Everything else, well:
ALL those "different futures" are completely wrong.
1. If the forst SRB(SonicRainboom) never happened, how and when did everypony got their marks? Why is Twilight still a princess? (ok I can accept that she may be excluded from the effects because of the nature of the spell)
2. So the mane 6 never got together right? So they didn't stop Nighmare Moon... ok, normal logic right? And there everything stops being logic, even for a world full of magical equines even I would hestate to make steaks from.... at first.
I mean, EVERYTHING what the mane 6 prevented would've happened right? WRONG
2. a) True Discord could've broken free, Most likely he could've /would've overpowered NNM right? Right. End of everything after that. Discored rules. No Changeling Invasion, No Sombra, no Flim Flam Empire of the Dying Sun.
Why no Sombra? easy: Discord no liking insane unicorns who bring just crystals and no chaos.... that guy is no fun right? Why no Chrysalis? No fun either with having just changelings in cocoons and boring changeling drones around.... And just playing with Chryssy would only be fun for me alone. roundstable.com/forums/images/smilies/octiglare.png uhm.. err... let's move on ok?
I mean, ok if Discord never would've broken out (assuming the cmc never visited Canterlot, because, well NMM won't allow that or whatever and assuming them as only reason Discord got free....) So what about Chryssy-chan? Nope Can't imagine she would've risked going against a militaristic Empire like under NMM with supposedly starviing or atl east very hungry Changelings right? (not that the staff let her make any real clever tactical or strategical decisions.... save for the comics.) Then Sombra? Sure the Crystal Empire would've come back at some point. And the following war would truly be much more fun to watch than with the resistance of useless Sunbutt. (yeah Alicorns really are pathetic right? Can't even beat a mildly better unicorn.... why again to they rule?) ok Flim and Flam? nope not with NMM around and where is that future worse than eternal night, war with Sombra? Oh didn't I forget one villain?
oh yeah, right, Tirek.... uhm... well he was a useless one just like Starwhaterver that name was....
So yeah... I maya stop ranting now... or maybe not.

So let's look at the "reason" for whiny [censored] to wanting to destroy Equestria: Because she was an useless idiot! Really? because she got her cutiemark after her so callred best and only friend? What in any dimenson prevented her from staying in contact with him or trying to find new friends! I mean, even I knew better... Uhm.. never mind.

3584594 Yeah, all of the futures were wrong...all of them would have been Discord futures since Discord is OP and can do anything. But if it meant being able to see Chryssy again, even if only briefly and with her acting in a way that didn't support her non-evilness, I'm totally okay with the lapse in logic. Though I don't understand how a) Flim and Flam get a future and b) that future is worse than one where Equestria's at war with Sombra, if we're to believe that the futures are getting progressively worse. They should have instead had some future with Trixie ruling everything if they really wanted to cameo some minor antagonist...ex-antagonist, in her case.
Starlight's backstory definitely could have done with a little more expansion to make her motives somewhat believable. I'm going to go ahead and theorize that she and her friend what's-his-face were bullied for being blank-flanks like the CMC, but once what's-his-face got his, he ditched her so as to not have to associate with some blank-flank loser.
