The Celestial breeding Program to bring together good alleles of genes for magical potential and intelligence, unavoidable brought together bad alleles of genes associated with mental instability; we have power-crazed Sunset Shimmer, although she recovered, hyper-reclusive Moondancer, and Starlight Glimmer who went off and started a commune in the middle of nowhere. The only success is Twilight Sparkle. It explains why they all have a similar naming scheme, are extremely intelligent as in the top percentile, magically more powerful than 99% of unicorns, and are all palette-swaps of each other.
