Well, Plomo o Plata is published

Another instalment of my version of Sunset's story, a work that has been pretty much my sole creative output of some last five years is out there.

Its not as great as I wanted it to be. It was better in my head, but still, I am very glad to have posted it. It was a big challenge for me, in almost every aspect. The genre, the style, the language, the story itself, but I think I pulled through.

    Why We Fight

    Why do I write?
Why do I write what I chose to write?

I've been asked this question a few times, and I think I should put to paper the answer to it.

    So, why do I write?

The mastery of any art begins with the art of... imitation

So, I've recently read Peter Watts's anthology and it was _great_. And after reading it, I wrote an excerpt wherein I tried to imitate his style.
Unfortunately, it neither fits in my current fic (almost done, I swear!) nor does it make any sense out of context.

    My Little Xenophilia.

    I am finishing my fic.
    Finally.
It just clicked one day (and I think I barely wrote a hundred words on said day), that this is it. The final stretch.

Moar crossovers for the crossover god · 10:20pm Nov 29th, 2015

There has to be a Sandman/MLP crossover, with Morpheus reckognizing Luna as one of the pieces of his soul chipped of during his imprisonment (like Wesley Dodds in DC).
A short fic about their interaction would be pretty cool.

I've thought about doing something similar based on this joke article here, but never really thought of a worthy plot for it. I wouldn't hold out for me actually writing it, since I'm mainly interested in writing my series I've already started, but I still think about it from time to time.

Yeah, it would probably be much more of a Sandman fanfic than MLP fanfic.
I guess, if I actually had at least a smidgen of writing ability, I would do a story where Luna feels that something horrifying is coming, and assembles the Main Six, and her sister, and every magical artifact, spell and defense she can muster.
And then it comes as a stars and darkness and it completely ignores everything the protagonist throw at it. Finally in a last-ditch attempt they all trigger the Elements of Harmony...and they fail too.
And turns out that it's Sandman, reassembling himself as he breaks out of the summonin circle, and he has a talk with Luna...

well, after that you can do it one of several ways, depending which cannon you personally prefer and how much you hate your readers and want to make them suffer.
Either Sandman leaves Luna be, as his regent for realm of Equestria and departs. MLP status-quo is preserved, and characters feel kinda silly for worrying so much. Sort of like Angel episode in season 5, where they protect Eve from what turns out to be eeeevil paperwork.
Alternatively Sandman takes Luna's dreamwalking ability, demoting her from being alicorn in the process. It's bad, but not horrible, and it's a bittersweet sort of ending, maybe ending with Luna resolving to re-master her magics and become alicorn again, or maybe fast-forwarding to Luna dyeing of the old age, and maybe having a talk with Death about how she misses visiting her ponies dreams. Or he could just kill her outright.
Finally, Sandman may simply choose to unmake the realm of Equestria and all that's in it, with it being nothing more than a dream made more enduring and real by a shard of his power, and he story ends with a little girl waking up from a dream. If you want to twist the knife a bit, than that girl is Lauren Faust who resolves to make a series based on the dream she feels was somehow real.

Well the only way to get better at writing is to write :raritywink: You don't seem to have any problem with coming up with stories, in any event.

I don't see Dream killing her. Causing her death by taking her power sure, he'd totally do that if he felt that was best, but he's not really one for direct killing. And as far as unmaking Equestria, we've seen firsthand he'd do that but the whole 'everything was a dream' thing is a cheap plot twist and almost certainly would just be kind of an eye roll ending, unless one was to really do it justice with all the characters last moments knowing they were about to be no more. I wouldn't want to attempt it, to easy to mess up.

Personally I wanted to think of something for Morpheus to do while in Equestria, like some epic adventure story, possibly involving him and Luna teaming up. But the problem is while I absolutely adore The Sandman (it's my favorite comic series) I can't imagine how to write a Sandman story. Dream is simply too powerful, there's a reason he usually just shows up at the end and fixes things while the main story arc often focuses on other characters. How do you write him going on an adventure? What possible conflicts could he not just deal with on an instant? I'd hate to go with the whole 'thing happens and he loses his powers' plot device, it's just so cliche.

Hmm, potentially turning Discord into the villain of the story could solve the problem, if you consider Discord as powerful as I do. It's still a stretch; I'd put Discord's power at the highest level of godliness, while the Endless are above gods. But it's really all I could think of, and I'm unsure exactly why Dream would have a problem with Discord.

3602841 well, he did unmake Hector whatshisname, the original DC hero!Sandman, without much of a thought.
In the first volume he was this sort of chtonic Old-Testament sort of God, smiting things left-and-right and sending people for ten thousand years in Hell just for slighting him. Murdering someone physical and real would probably not occur to him (that being purview of his sister), but if Luna is merely a piece of him given life, he would unmake and absorb her without so much as blinking an eye.

As per action-adventure... I do not see Morpheus doing it. He is much too powerful and introspective for that.

Hector was already dead though, only being kept alive by Brute and Glob's dream they created. He more so took away the thing that kept him alive, which is pretty similar but it's more the type of thing Dream does. But yes, I suppose before his imprisonment Dream was rather different and far more likely to do something malicious to Luna.

3602913 well, yes, but in this sort of ending it would imply that Luna is, or for the most part is made of Sandman's power.
I do guess that would be weird, though, you'd have to set it up quite carefully for it to make sense.
