Are you familiar with Google Docs? Because I always keep a copy of my works there in case of situations like this. If I lose my computer harddrive, I've still got a backup to pull down. All you need is a gmail account.

It's something to look into if you are interested. Unless you are deathly afraid of cloud services.

Unless your hard drive was making funny noises, it's NOT the problem. You can just connect it to another computer as a slave drive and all your stuff will be there.

Assuming you can't fix the broken computer, of course, which happens less often than you'd think.
