And I know just what it is. On the 5th, (at least, I think it was on the 5th...) the Trans-Pacific Partnership Trade was signed. Normally, I would be like 'meh' end go do something else. But apparently, it has a line which states: "Any reproduction, remastering, modification, alteration, reselling, and/or manipulation of an original copyrighted item will not be infringed on, or will be punishable by jail time, and/or a fine of up to a $100,00, and/or be sued by the copyright holder."
I may not be a lawyer, (And if I am wrong, someone tell me PLEASE so I can apologies for the misinformation,) but what this can oh so easily be interpreted as is that cosplay, fanfics, fan music, fan props, and fan comics will be illegal soon. Only people with proper licenses will be able to do ANYTHING with IPs.
What's worse is that this not only effects America, but also Brunei, Chile, Singapore, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, and Vietnam.
So what are we going to do now? My answer is: do what we did to SOPA and PIPA. If we don't, then all the sweat, blood, and love fans have instilled into their work will be wasted. Thank you for reading this.
People in New Zealand (which is where I'm from) have been fighting the signing of the TPPA since the moment it was announced. The sad part was is that our Prime Minister, John Key, completely ignored the majority demands of the public and went along with it anyway. There's alot more than copyright laws which it affects. Have a look if you want; it should be rather easy to find on google.
