You know what's hard? · 7:17pm Aug 5th, 2012
Get your mind out of the gutters, all of you.
But seriously you know what's hard? Trying to write in a house with 3 extremely loud younger brothers, a dad who encourages them, and two TVs blasting either Lifetime movies or baseball. In other words...I CAN'T CONCENTRATE!
Because of this (yes I'm going to place the blame on people other than myself) I lost what little inspiration I had for practically two of my stories and I'm now in a huge writer's block (so what less is new).
Anyone who is still following me I'm sorry if I haven't made any progress since...April. I'm new to this whole 'creative' thing and am having trouble writing anything (due to both internal and external distractions).
I understand that what many of you will say is the appropriate response to this is to 'take a break' or 'relax' or 'just let the ideas come to you' but that hasn't worked and I don't think it will. The ideas are all there but I just can't get them out. I need to write something, anything!
To those who read this, thanks for listening to the ramblings of some guy who once was, I guess, a 'good' writer.
Scribble nonesense! Keep working at it! Force the ideas out with a pointed stick if you have to! Metaphorically speaking. Don't play with sharp objects...
Draw stuff. That helps me. Even if you're terrible at drawing. I don't know. I'm really visual.
Hey now, you simply ARE a good writer, mate. Believe you me--between my nerve shot grandmother, asshole father, martyr mother, and ever troubling nine year old sister--not to mention the hyperactive puppy I have to take care of 'cause no one else will and the ailing cat who's getting more annoying by the day--I know exactly what it's like to be bombarded by distractions and thus not get anything done.
I suggest music. Music and focus--don't let the world take away what should be a joy for you, that of creating and fulfilling yourself.
I wish you the best of luck mate, and I know you can succeed. Cheers!
As a man with a younger sister who blasts music loudly in her room 24/7 and occassionally brings friends to engage in borderline yelling discussions, I totally understand. I reccommend instrumental music. The voiceless tunes give some peace of mind, while also blocking some of the less grate noise
Mate, you just keep trying at it. Get some headphones, move rooms, leave the house for a moment; just do anything you have to to concentrate. That's all I can say. Even I haven't written and published anything since *Checks calender* February, so hush.
Its regular for us to get those distraction in our way. Solution is pretty simple, enjoy whatever you want to enjoy. Ideas come out when you enjoy things, like eating a donut or choosing a fedora. Other than that, I haven't even gotten started on my 3 stories on the backburner.....So cheer up dude! You'll find a way!
