Viruses! Aren't they just fun!
Okay, I'll try not to go into too much detail, but I was surfing the web and clicked a link; to end up on a page that was pretending to be FBI and trying to get me to pay a fine for 'crimes committed on my computer' I /just/ got this thing back with a new hard drive; yeah, no, there wasn't any time for 'crimes to be committed without my knowledge' and then there's fact I never let anyone use my computer, so yeah. But the virus was threatening me with jail time, 5-11 years for, nothing? unless I pay a $500 dollar fine =/ As stated in the last blog, I have no job; I couldn't pay a fine if I wanted to. And other than that, I'm a law abiding citizen, I shouldn't be fined for anything.
Anyways, I looked it up, found it was a virus, and then took steps to remove it, including restoring my system and running a ton of scans. Will be more careful next time.
Honestly though, that scared me =( As a penniless dependent, a $500 fine would be coming out of my dad's pocket, not mine; and I'd hate to have to ask him for that kind of money, considering family situations right now. And 5-11 years in jail for something I didn't do would be even worse =(
I'm going to be limiting my web surfing now; only going to use/read/go to less about 6-7 websites from now on =( or at least only things I trust. I'm tired of dealing with viruses, harddrive failures, computer problems, etc.
Really, if it wasn't for my boyfriend and other friends; I wouldn't be online half as often as I am =/ Limiting myself might be difficult, but its better than dealing with stress and scares.
