Be My Guest · 10:17pm Aug 30th, 2015
I just wanted to let you know that if you want to write a sequel to any of my stories, or use them as a springboard for one of your own stories, please go right ahead - be my guest! I would enjoy that. It would be an honor to serve as an inspiration for another tale.
(The reason I'm posting this is because someone asked, and I wanted to make it clear to everyone that I don't have a problem with this at all.)
Thanks!
You're back!
Sounds nice to me.

Yes, I am finally back, after much too long. Thanks for stopping by!
Since you are still hanging around, I'll ask you: would you rather see me write something entirely new, or a sequel to The Fall of Night? I've got a bunch of ideas and it's hard to know where to start. Any advice would be appreciated!
3358443 Ohh, Fall of night was awesome! But, I'm not sure if a sequel would work for it, depends on what it's about. I would love to hear some of your ideas.

One of the great things about fan fiction is the ability to explore ideas that we are never going to see on the show. We have an opportunity to explore some interesting places.
I'd love to write a classic space opera - science fiction is something I really enjoy. I've been thinking about a sequel called BEYOND THE FALL OF NIGHT, in which Equestria makes contact with a very alien civilization from the stars. Now, typically, these kind of First Contact stories go in one direction: the aliens are evil and want to kill everyone (Independence Day, War of the Worlds, etc.) There's also the occasional Star Trek-style "Are the locals ready to join the galactic community?" story. What I have in mind is very different. (I like writing stories where the villain isn't the obvious choice.) If the story is set in a time when Celestia and Luna are gone, and Twilight and Trixie just started reigning, and things are already in chaos, and they have aliens on top of that, there could be some potential there.
Another idea is a classic mystery story. We saw a tiny bit of this in that one episode where the cake got eaten (Friendship Express, I think it was called), but so much more is possible. A good murder mystery could have a lot of potential. Security is so terrible in Equestria (and everyone is so trusting) that it seems to me a clever villain could arrange a murder, frame someone, and use the chaos to rise to a position of power and influence. You could go in some interesting directions here.
A third idea: in a season 4 episode, the Mane 6 actually went inside a comic book. Not only were they able to experience that world, but at the end of the episode they were able to take things out of that book and into reality. (I think it was Power Ponies.) That means there is an in-canon way to write whatever you want into reality - and Twilight is all about books. There's all kinds of potential here. How long would it take Applejack to realize she could get her parents back by having Twilight write them into existence? What kind of chaos would be unleashed when people realize they can have anything they want at the stroke of a pen? Scootaloo could write a new world where gravity is different, her wings work fine, and she is a champion flyer. Equestria could be put in danger - not by an enemy, but because ponies come to like their fantasy worlds much better than reality. Why live in the real world when you can live in one that gives you everything you ever wanted?
I've also been wondering about the prehistory of Equestria. One of the books (I think it was Celestia's diary) said there was a whole tribe of alicorns, but they disappeared and Celestia and Luna were discovered alone. Exploring what happened to them, and where they came from, could break some interesting ground.
Alternate history could also be fun. During the Canterlot Wedding episode, every single one of Twilight's friends deserted her (even the supposedly loyal Rainbow Dash, who has to be the least loyal pony I've ever seen). Suppose that at the end of that episode, Twilight didn't forgive her friends. Instead, she realized that they would never have her back when it really counted, so she just walked away. This has some interesting repercussions. First, Twilight would start a new life somewhere else, which would give her a chance to make friends with ponies who actually have something in common with her (as opposed to a dressmaker, a baker/party planner, an apple farmer, an animal keeper, and a weather pony who occasionally reads). It would also mean that when disasters strike in the future, the problem will have to be resolved without Twilight's magical superpowers. Usually in these "It's a Wonderful Life" stories the moral is that the main character is indispensable, but perhaps this could force Celestia to actually experience some character growth and start being Equestria's ruler for a change. In a surprising twist, it could actually work out better for everyone.
Those are just a few thoughts that have crossed my mind...

I thought about that before. I think it's an awesome idea! Think of what would happen right!?

Exactly! Excellent choice - now it's time to begin work on it. If all goes well I hope to have the first chapter posted sometime next week. Let the writing begin!
3360514 That's amazing! So glad I decided to come back.

I'm very glad you did! You definitely inspired me. It's good to be writing again.
