The best way to handle negative emotions/behaviors · 3:08pm Aug 22nd, 2015

I know nothing about this person except what they have posted, but I find this level of self awareness to be encouraging

I've seen a lot of this sort of behavior on the anti-depression group, but they, for obvious reasons, tend to be much less forgiving of themselves. I would like to encourage everyone to respond with the same sort of kindness and compassion because we never know what someone is or has been going through and how much an undeserved positive word of encouragement can help someone.

Also, don't forget to forgive yourself if you find yourself acting in an inappropriate manner; if you're anything like me, the energy wasted criticizing and condemning yourself leaves you with nothing left to actually fix your behavior.

And for those of you who are christians, this is triply important

1) Jesus has paid the price for them just as much as for you

2) Proverbs 15:1
A gentle answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.

3) people know when they're acting badly and know even more when they don't deserve the kindness they're being shown

Proverbs 25:15
By forbearance a ruler may be persuaded, And a soft tongue breaks the bone.

Romans 12:20
On the contrary:

“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”

(yes, not the attitude we should have, but it's a nice comfort when we're struggling to do the right thing)
