Things I Hate About Things I Love: Comedy · 3:10am Aug 18th, 2015
It's been a while since I did one of these, but I've been more or less happy with life lately (with a few ginormous fucking out-liers). But, now I'm back in my groove of complaining about the things I love the most. Tonight's target for my inexplicable rage: Comedy
Boy, I love comedy. Comedy is one of the most rewarding and difficult to pull off forms of entertainment. It's also one of the easiest to misunderstand. That brings me to my first problem: There is a difference between a bad joke, a joke you don't get, and a joke that wasn't meant for you. I'm gonna give you an example of the last one, but keep in mind that I am not saying that you can't enjoy comedy outside of your race. I repeat: If you are black and love Louis C.K (like myself) that's fine. If you are white and love Katt Williams (also like me, it feels) that is also fine. Remember that.
Now, if you are a white chick from the suburbs, a nice area filled with nice Caucasians and no minorities besides the ones that mow your lawn, you probably won't enjoy Katt Williams. You will almost definitely not get the jokes. That's okay, it just wasn't meant for you. This does not mean that he's not funny. You must understand the difference between the two. It bugs me to no end when I hear people complain about a terrible comedian when it turns out that they are simply not the intended audience. If you're reading this, odds are that you're a good person. You will not enjoy Louis C.K. That doesn't mean he's not funny, he's just not for you.
Now, on to the problem of things/people that are not funny, but are somehow still seen as comedy. Perhaps this is more of an opinionated thing, so feel free to entirely ignore this part of the rant. Jeff Dunham is not funny, or at least, not as funny as people make him out to be. PewDiePie is not funny (we'll talk about that later). Next to nothing on Adult Swim is funny.
PewDiePie is f*cking awful! Can someone here please explain to me how and why he is the most subscribed channel on YouTube? I don't think a single funny thing has ever come from the Pewds. He is childish, annoying, incomprehensible (not entirely his fault), and he's boring! I know most people have grown out of that by this point, but I don't know how you were ever in it to begin with. I somehow managed to dodge the Swedish Bullet (which is a sick name for a super-spy or something).
Let's talk about "funny" cartoons, going from most funny to least funny. Standing at the funniest not-funny cartoons out there, we have a tie between Family Guy, Bob's Burgers, and American Dad. They're funny enough, but christ on a crutch, do we really need three of these shows? I've grown so sick of them, and I really wish they'd end already. Next up are cartoons more for the kiddies. Clarence and Uncle Grandpa, in that order. Neither of these cartoons are quite sinful, but they're nowhere near funny. I won't lie, they both have their moments, and I've laughed loudly at both of them. It's just that both of these shows have these shitty characters that ruin the entire show. I hate Sumo and I hate Pizza Steve. I don't think anyone is going to fight me on that, but it had to be said Finally, the grand daddy of shit reboots, the dreaded, awful, horrible, somehow adored, Teen Titans Go!
I hate this show the way the Klan hates blacks. This show is such an abomination of something that used to be so amazing. I hate TTG, and not because it's not the original. I hate it because it's horribly unfunny, terribly annoying, and bastardizing of what the characters used to be. I get it, they wanted to make a comedy spin-off (for some F*CKING REASON!), so you can't have super-stoic Robin and terrifying Slade, but would it kill you to make them resemble the past iterations? Or even good characters? Robin is a freaking psycho, Beast Boy and Cyborg are too much of themselves to be entertaining, and Star is an idiot rather than just unaware. Only Raven seems to resemble herself. Every almost-funny thing that happened in this show was immediately ruined by something dumb that happened. The freaking "Waffles" song has been the subject of several nightmares. You know the worst part? It's the original cast of VAs. I know that sounds bizarre, but the fact that these are the original voices just makes me a whole lot angrier about the whole thing, because they were so close to something good! But, unfortunately, we got stuck with this atrocity.
That was a good one, I find. What do you think of my thoughts? Got stuff you hate about comedy? Share in the comments, and I'll catch you another time. Farewell!
