First milestone: Act 1 · 3:16pm Aug 17th, 2015
It's done. It's not edited, it's not sanity-checked, and it hasn't in any way been exposed to the outside world yet, but the first draft of Act 1 of Deathless is complete. 12 chapters and around 35k words, which positions it pretty much dead-center for a complete work weighing in at around novel-sized.
I hadn't actually planned on doing a novel's worth of horse words, but what the hell.
I think I'm pleased with the draft. I've done a read-through of the first act from beginning to end after giving it a day or two, and I haven't noticed anything that shakes me out of the story. I enjoyed the read-through, and the flow feels good for a first attempt.
The process of searching for an editor continues, but at some point I'm going to stop worrying and learn to love the bomb -- or, more context-appropriately, I'll just say screw it and hit the publish button. So if I haven't had any luck by this time next week, the sucker goes live.
