Working in hospitality... · 9:08am Aug 17th, 2015
I love my job.
I work in the family business, we own and run a guest house, Bed and Breakfast by the seaside. The view from our patio and dining room is a glorious vista of the sea and the headland with Scarborough Castle sat on top.
We cook one of the finest breakfasts in town (seriously, we have awards!), we keep our rooms clean and fresh, and we have most of the afternoons and evenings to do with as we please.
Except this summer...
Wow, it has been so busy. I mean, every summer is busy, it's the high season, folk are going on holiday to enjoy the weather and the school holidays. But this summer has been exhausting! Relentless even. And it's not complete yet, still got another four weeks of hard graft to go before things start to slow down.
Still, I can't complain too hard.
I'm sitting quietly now with a cup of milky tea while I wait for the guests to head out so I can clean their rooms, the view is still gorgeous, and all this busy work means clink in the coffers.
Yes, in the end, hard work as it is, these are good days.
Good days indeed.
