Oh what you learn in a family crisis. · 4:16am Jul 29th, 2015
Turns out, my grandmother on my dad's side has Dementia.
What is it?
It is a . . . disorder. .. yeah, that sounds right. It's a disorder in the mind which causes the person in question to lose almost all memory. Almost.
The person retains basic motor memory, like picking things up and walking.
But they no longer know who they are, where they are, or what they are doing there.
And it comes and goes.
So, alongside kidney and heart failure, she has that.
And she decides to drive from SALT LAKE CITY to ONTARIO! (Oregon. Not Canada.)
A full day trip, all the way across Idaho.
She stopped in Ontario to stay the night at a Hotel. Next morning she wakes with no memories.
Has she got them back yet? No clue.
But, luckily, the police were able to identify her and find a number to contact a relative.
Guess who's number they found?
Yep, my mother's.
So, my mom and a friend had to run to Ontario to pick her up.
But Dementia isn't the only thing I learned about during this.
I learned about a cousin I never knew who is a lawyer.
. . .
Kinda funny that I'm playing a game about lawyers and I have a family member who is a lawyer.
Anyways, that was my day. How was yours?
Sympathies dude. My Yia Yia had it too.
3278523 Yia Yia?
3278562 Greek for grandmother.
3278580 Ah, I see.
