Princess Celestia smiles and officially grants you the Pony name: Handsome Charmer.
...Ms. Celestia, are you trying to seduce me?
That said: What do people think of pony names? Should they be definiately pony (i.e. Twilight Sparkle), or should they have human names like Jack and Tom and Billy Mays?
Hm, obviously I am Steel Charmer, handsome unicorn Metalsmith. Or something.
Pony Names are fine, they give the show it's distinct feel. In my opinion it does add to the atmosphere.
Hey! She named me Charming Stallion!
I think she's playin' us both!
Billy Mays?
How 'bout...Billy Hays.
I try to keep the names somewhat pun-filled, but vague at the same time, so it takes some thought to understand the nature of owner. So far, it seems that a great many ponies have names that relate to their calling, but not all.
Brawny Spirit for my real name, Brave Boulder for my online tag...
...
...
I'm OK with this...
Now If I were Evil, that would be Lonely Poison and Dark Devil...
...
...
I am MORE than OK with that!
And Pony names are awesome. Human names are awesome too. Ponies being given human names and humans being given pony names is silly though.

Right. It's just a little hard to create a decent OC name, in the event that I need a few random characters, like the mayor's aide or something. Pun-worthy is preferable to not pun-worthy.
I've always sort of thought it'd be funny to call a pony by just single name.
"Let's see... That's Handsome Charmer, Brawny Spirit, Billy Hays, Twilight Sparkle and Bob."
"Bob? As in, Bobbing for apples?"
"No, just Bob."
