Attempt #2 ends in a giant middle finger · 11:35pm Jun 14th, 2015

Well friends, I did my best: I submitted "Where My Heart Lives" to Equestria Daily and, despite attempting to edit the story to my prereader's satisfaction, it is, apparently, still not good enough to be on their website.

I'll spare you the details, but the short version is that my story was nitpicked to death about comma usage and "telly language", according to my prereader. He and the other person who he had to bring in to read the rest of my story — yes, you heard that right: he was a "slow" prereader and couldn't manage such a long story by himself — both agreed that it was good enough content-wise to be on the site, but he wanted me to clean it up a little.

Two weeks of work for my wife and I later, I get it sent back saying that most of the edits he wanted were still there and that I basically made no progress whatsoever.

Um, fuck you.

I'm not going to say that some of the edits he suggested weren't helpful — they were, actually, up to and including the proper usage of hyphens vs. dashes — but I'll be damned if I'm going to go back and read the almost 100,000 words of my story again and look for fucking participles. Also don't fucking tell me how to narrate my story. I don't want to be "that guy" but I know I own at least one published series of books that uses narration in exactly the same way, so it sounds more like my prereader just didn't like that style. And telly language is total bullshit, if you asked me: it's just another way for them to nitpick your story until you give up.

Well, congratulations dickbags! You nitpicked enough! I don't have the time or inclination to attempt this again so you'll never have one of my stories up on your site!

UGH.

Sorry everyone, I just really needed to get some of this off of my chest. It's been an intense couple of weeks followed by this disappointment so I had to get this out somewhere.

(High five)

Welcome to the "Fuck EqD" clubhouse. Cookies and punch are on the table. The house band should be warning up shortly.

Yeah, I didn't really want to say anything when I started up but I figured now everyone deserved to know what's been occupying my time for the past few weeks. XD It wasn't a total loss since I got some smoothing of WMHL done, but it still kinda sucks. Thanks for being there and supporting me. :3

*high five*

We should get matching jackets.

I submitted my first fic to them back in early '12 and didn't really pursue it when they sent it back to me with edit requirements, but this time I decided that I would try and do what they asked so that I could at least say that I tried. I tried my best and it was a COLOSSAL waste of time... I mean seriously, what kind of site tells you they can't post your story because of your comma usage? The prereader said that he liked my story a lot, as did the other people he pulled to help him read it... so what's the problem?

Ah well, that's the EqD song and dance, I suppose. XD Let's not have the house band play that, okay?

3151610 No worries. They always kick off with "We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister.
