My review of Bloom and Gloom · 5:17am Jun 10th, 2015
WARNING: I haven't done episode reviews before, so this will be sloppy, and I DO like this episode very much, but there will be a brief angry rant in this.
I'm sorry this is a very long time after the episode went on the air, but like I have said, I don't get cable and thus cant watch new episodes unless I go over to my friend's house sense he records them.
Things I like:
concutsion to CMC/Luna trilogy
The lesson given is that a cutie mark does not define what you must do in life, but rather what you are good at
Luna is in it
We FINALY get to see what Luna sees when she is not in a dream but still in the dream world
The infestation pony was funny
Things I dislike:
The CMCs think that if one of them gets their cutie mark they cant be in the CMCs anymore even though they are friends (yes I know this is part of the lesson but I think it could have been done differently)
Luna shows Apple bloom her friends doing what they like in their dreams, but they get a cutie mark they don't like anyway, which is basically them being denied having a cutie mark that represents them, which makes no sense.
Angry Rant warning:
Time loops
I HATE TIME LOOPS!!! They just ruin the episode for me because after a few loops it gets boring, I get it, Apple Bloom is spiraling down into worrying about what a cutie mark would do to her and her friends. I see why they did this, which is to show the different worries Apple Bloom has, but I think they looped a few to many times. If they had done 3-4 loops and not higher, with multiple worries in each, I could handle it, but in this case, I feel like the episode looped the nightmare so that the episode would be long enough to go on the air, which is dumb, but no nessasarly why they did it, it just made me think that when I first watched it.
Also, Diamond Tiara and Sliver Spoon are in it, and I hate them and they just seem to be there so the episode is more dramatic, but we have seen them so many times before being jerks that its just boring.
Despite all that, I do like this episode, and I give it a 8 out of 10, but it will never beat the 11 out of 10 I give Luna Eclipsed (and yes, I like that episode so much that I watch it every Sunday due to my obsession with Luna, deal with it)
if only I could boast such dedication to the Princess of the Night
Anywho, my most favorite part besides the obvious had to be those Twittermites. The critters gave me plenty o' ideas for fics with their ability to zap and sometimes even catch fire to things.
I also assume that the contradiction in the dream Luna showed was to actually introduce the fact to their young minds that cutie marks don't define talents and true callings, which is only a tiny fraction of the truth, as the marks are really just abstractions at the end of the day that show the personality and nature of the pony in question, and serve to amplify their magics in some unspecified magic.
