Tanks for the Memories thoughts. · 6:25am Apr 26th, 2015
(Warning: Rant Ahead)
I generally don't do this. I simply just don't usually find the need to post my thoughts on any given episode, as they're generally most likely mirrored (sometimes even word for word) elsewhere.
But I hated this episode. It's probably the one I hate most of all, beyond even that of the Trenderhoof episode (which, to this day, I have not nor will ever finish).
It's no secret I'm on my way out of the fandom, I'm just sticking around to see what season 5's all about. Episodes like this make it REALLY hard to reach that goal.
Now, to my complaints.
The entire premise of the episode really just boils down to "Rainbow Dash is a selfish piece of crap".
I wanted to throw my phone after she visited Fluttershy in the first five minutes because she was unnecessarily and irritatingly bullheaded.
The episode's musical--which, admittedly, is one of the best I've heard from the show--just further emphasized the point of rainbow's selfishness. This episode literally took Rainbow's loyalty to her friends and country and shot in the face.
That's not even the worst part. At one point, she starts wailing because Tank has to hibernate, calling it tragic. And that's what sets me off worse then anything else. Because that's not tragic.
Look at Ganta Igurashi from Deadman Wonderland. His entire middle school was murdered in front of him, then unfairly convicted of murder and sentenced to Deadman Wonderland. That's tragic.
Look at Sayaka Miki from Madoka Magica. She gave her life to fight for a wish she believed in, only to be tricked and lied to, having her wish distorted and corrupted, dying in her despair. That's tragic.
Look at Princess Euphemia from Code Geass! She'll forever be remembered Post Mortem (murdered by her friend, I would like to add!) as a tyrant who gave an order to slaughter millions of lives through no will of her own! THAT'S tragic!
Tank hibernating? Please. That's a load of crap.
To quote my favorite anime reviewer, Rainbow needed to "Get off that cross, take that wood and build a bridge, and GET OVER IT"
I swear, the only redeeming qualities of this episode was just how disinterested Applejack was at the entire prospect as I was.
End Rant.
... to be perfectly fair... MLP IS directed at young girls ( between age 8~10) FIRST. As such hasbro NEEDS to keep some regulation in check to satisfy some
mothersaudiences. The example you listed isn't really fitting as they are aimed at older audiences... It is just like complaining that Pokemon anime or Digimon anime don't show enough gore and horror like PMMM, Code geas, and Guts.I think it is their attempt at teaching about death without raising any alarms for
whimmpyconcerned parents.yeah it would be NICE if Hasbro would go out of its way and address issue of death properly like Disney ( see bambi's mother's death) but... so far they have been lukewarm about darker subject about life... Maybe they don't want to damage MLP's happiness image...
3017794 And it's for that reason that I'm pretty much leaving the fandom.
They're far too lukewarm with serious issues, and treat non-issues as serious ones.
3017808 yeah I understand... I was like WTF at how Rainbow is treating this... but hey, even if you don't like the show you can still hang around here...
*remembers previous blog*
yeah I guess not.
anyway can you tell me apart from show what made you leave this fandom?
3017814 My other blog explains it more in depth, but basically, I seem to constantly see the worst this fandom has to offer. It's worsened my cynicism, and I want no more of it.
3017820 Sorry if I'm bit blind to all this but I don't get what you mean by lies and hypocrisy... Maybe I'm blind and naive about it...
so can you tell me bit more?
3017826 By that, I was pretty much thinking of "The Christian Bronies" group.
They aren't.
3017832 yeah I guessed so...
but hey apart from that crappy group, other people are OK... especially in Anti-depression group...
yeah it is odd when Atheists group are more Christianic then so-called "Christian bronies"
3017863 And that's just kinda sad, you know?
3017832
I almost feel like there are more atheists in that group than Christians; hell, I think all the admins are atheists!
3018389 I think so too.
In one of my last posts there, I realized this and implored people to seek God in all they do. Fairly common thing for a Christian to say.
I was ridiculed pretty badly for it. It was at that point where I was just so done with that group.
