Friends Forever 14 head canon fix · 11:31pm Mar 30th, 2015
I've noticed how much hate IDW Friends Forever #14 has gotten, the one with Spike in the previously unmentioned Dragon Town of Fillydelphia. I've categorized why it is hated:
1. Why would Spike go on Dragon Quest if there was a community within a days ride by train?
2. No one in the community ever published material on Greed Growth?
3. Luna, despite being the secondary character, was just a MacGuffin.
4. It breaks continuity.
I think I may have answers to all of these, but it requires imagination and head canon.
1. Dragon Town did not look large, and if it was it was being rebuilt. Many of the ghettos immigrants were forced into when coming to the United States were in previously unused or abandoned areas. It's very possible that Dragon Town as a whole was simply a newer community and has a small population. There also is the argument that they aren't true dragons culturally. They live and work like ponies, while Dragon Quest showed wild dragons, so even if Spike knew he might still take the journey to seek his ancestry and where his egg came from. (It's been said he wasn't supposed to hatch.)
2. Early in the comic Twilight sleep-talks and mentions Dragon Half-Breeds. If the community was populated by such creatures or pony raised like Spike, the odds of them going through Greed Growth lessen. Half-Breeds may not have Greed Growth and pony-raised may be rare enough that Greed Growth either never happens among them or when it does the Dragon joins the Wilds.
3. There is no excuse for Luna besides commentary on her medieval mindset and unfortunately speciest actions.
4. I just listed two things I hope could possibly make it fit into continuity, I just hope it makes sense.
