PCaRG review – Loganberry's "The Light that Ignites in the dark" · 1:58am Mar 28th, 2015
My review for this story is up on the group, and can be found here. From my review summary:
While it is fair to say that all of the Mane 6 are friends, not all the individual interpersonal relationships are equally well greased. Everypony gets along with Twilight, and has a stronger connection to specific ponies, but when you get to, say, Rainbow Dash and Rarity, or Applejack and Fluttershy, I always get the feeling that these ponies wouldn't be so close if not for the others. This is a story that takes this concept and explores it fairly well, overtly about Rainbow trying to come to terms with a mistake of hers, but mostly about the way in which their group dynamics make up for the individual interpersonal issues. It is very competent on a technical level, with a strong grasp on characterization and character relations. However, it has some general issues and overall weirdness that prevented me from connecting emotionally to the story, and were enough to leave me uninvested at the end.
