    The State of Affairs

Yikes. It's been a while, hasn't it? I hate these blogs, but I kinda feel guilty when I don't say anything, so please bear with me.

Rant time! Show vs. Tell: Why You Know People who are Doing it Terribly Wrong

It’s always depressing to see people give bad advice. It’s even more depressing to see people eat that bad advice up and say things like, 'This is really good and totally right!' Now, I don’t like starting arguments on the Internet, so I normally just shake my head and look the other way. But this is something I have seen more than a couple of times from people who have a greater audience than

    New Chapter and Related Apologies

New chapter is up! Twilight and Celestia are getting closer to the dragon kingdom now, but they still have a little something to go through before they get there. That little something may or may not include living, giant stone statues.

    Honest Words

She holds my hand with all the strength she has left, a bony grasp that shakes like a frightened child. I can hear her breathing, wet and rasping as if her lungs are filled with fluid—until I realise that they probably are. The oxygen machine next to me hisses, and I can hear shrill beeps from the other side of the bed. One and a half every second, a laughable imitation of a heartbeat. To me it

Because the Universe Has a Strange Sense of Humour · 4:41pm Jul 8th, 2012

So picture this... I am lying in bed, trying to get to sleep, when, like a bullet train hitting a stockbroker who just lost his client millions, and who lost his job, and who is getting divorced, inspiration decides to explode very violently into life.

Come on! It's 2:30 in the morning! Can't you... y'know, come in the morning? ...No?

Sigh.

This better come to something.

You'd be surprised when inspiration decides to strike.

Although it sounds like you got :trollestia:'d.

219512 Of course, I immediately got conned and got up to write some notes. My body is going to haaaate me tomorrow. :facehoof:

I'm on skype if you'd like someone to chat with while you persp- I mean, inspire.

Bah! All my best ideas come to me as I am going to sleep. I keep a note pad next to my bed just for that reason. Except yesterday where I was just being brilliant all day long. :moustache:

I'm always kind of surprised to hear this happen to people (honestly, I hear it so often I don't know why anymore :applejackunsure:). I guess I'm just one of those people that latches onto an idea and then lets it build and fester slowly.

In any case, I hope it goes somewhere too! Lord knows whatever your mind deems more important than sleep must be something worthwhile. That said, I would poke and prod you for information that my curious self demands, but I fear your already grumpy body will not appreciate my pestering.

And oh my... that poor stockbroker... :fluttershyouch:

You have an odd way of connecting similarities, and I'm not even sure that it made all that much sense. Maybe you should lay back down and get some sleep, no?

Inspiration always strikes me when I'm too tired to even open my eyes or move anything. :pinkiecrazy:

Maybe if you weren't stupid and wrote a GOOD story once in a while this wouldn't happen. :pinkiehappy:

219532 Oh man! You must have posted this right after I last checked! D: I was typing on my ipad and literally fell asleep with it on my chest. Haha.

219552 Brilliant all day long? Jeeeaalous. I just try and string all my not-so-brilliant ideas along and hope for the best!

219732 Normally I'm just like you. I get an idea and it grows and evolves over time. Fortunately, now that I have penned down a plan for this idea last night, it can undergo the same process over the next few days until I feel ready enough to type it. I haven't checked my notes yet since last night, so hopefully it's not terrible! Haha.

And my 'connecting similes' is just the nonsensical and downright disturbing manner my sense of humor manifests at 2:30 or whatever god-forsaken time it was last night. Haha. I would be more surprised if it did make sense!

As for what it is... An idea for a one shot. Though it's probably going to be pretty long, haha. It involves the Princesses and history and lessons learned and what-not. I think that's all I'll say for now, knowing full well that it may change considerably in the mean time. It's going to take a lot to pull off, and I'm not sure I can! D:

219952 That's just the worst! D:

220243 :ajbemused: I would mention that I have recycled a few of your ideas that we axed from the epic for this one, but that probably isn't going to help my case. But at least if it sucks, I can blame it all on you!

Oops, that's not a good news. Bless you.

Having a "small glass" of red wine (too much alcohol DO make things worse) can help to relax the tight nerve.
Or listening to light music such as crystal music in low volume may help.
The most important thing is relaxing yourself without thinking too much.

I have similiar problems one week ago (reading too much fim fictions and worrying about my research publications. etc).
Bless you and good luck ^^

220278 Oh boy! I wish I knew that last night! D: Was up till about 4am even after I had finished the bulk of my plan. I've got some nice red as well...

220250

Yeah, I was having a lot of difficulty with one of my stories. Ideas felt all over the place with a dozen loose story threads. Hadn't hardly been able to write anything in a month. Then I sat down yesterday and everything just clicked and I've not been able to stop writing since. I am writing three chapters at once, predominatly in reverse order. Just about to finish one of them and move my full attention to the next. Once all three are done it'll be an editing pass (always fun since my editors disappeared. :facehoof: ) and then they'll be posted together. Any who, back to work, Alonsey!

220250

Well, you just said history and Celestia in one sentence, so I'm good with patiently waiting for it to be finished. There isn't enough past exploration on this sight, from what I've seen anyway.

Also, this is kind of unrelated, but I've always wondered why people make one shots, well, one shots. At least longer one shots, like you said this would be, could most likely be separated into a few smaller chapters if the author wished. Not that I'm complaining, personally I adore larger chapters; kinda like candy, except without the drastic effects after large quantities are consumed =/

220343 I love those days. Everything just clicks and it's amazing! Haha.

220370 It's a challenge of mine to one day write an ok one shot. I have never done it, and ironically, I've already failed with this one. The plan I have is already roughly 3 chapters long, hahaha.

221628

Well, if you really wanted, you could always just shove the chapters into one large clump. Would it be around, what, 15,000 to 20,000 words? I'd read that, and probably with great gusto.

You'll most likely achieve it someday, there's always new ideas, many just right around the corner. That said, try not to get bogged down by brilliance, it can happen :twilightsheepish:

I'm sorry to hear you lost sleep over it, but I'm PUMPED that you've got a new idea. Your work is always worth the next-day lethargy. So if it makes you feel any better, we'll all lose some sleep to your idea too!

Oh dear, it seems we've all been :trollestia:'d.

224247 Well I just hope it turns into something readable! I should have more news on that front within a week, hopefully. Work has already begun...

Oops, I'm sorry for replying late.
I wish that you don't have those problems now.
Aha, plz don't cosume too much red wine and be drunk. As I know that some red wine in your country is excellent and popular.

(Can you kindly suggest some brands? lol)

Best wishes for your health and your following fictions.

227688 Some brands? Some good local ones are Nepenthe or Bird in Hand (the last one is pretty local, mind you). However, I am huge fan of Wolf Blass, which is another label made in my state. Their reds are faaantastic. Haha.

Really thx for your recommendation!
I know the wine is awesome in your country.
(I learn Torbreck Woodcutter Shiraz and the d'Arenberg from a famous Japanese comic talking about wine.)
This will be my first step to start tasting these liquid gems from Australia.

I'll try Wolf Blass first (I can find this brand in Taiwan), the EagleHawk (18 USD) or YellowBrand (32 USD) may be my very first try.
Thanks always.
And oh my goddess, I always off-topic... :pinkiecrazy:

229310 Hehe, the Gold Label is very nice. I had some just the other week, actually!

Haha, I really appreciate your recommendation.
I'll buy this to celebrate with my friends for finishing long-distance bike riding next week.
Mind you kindly tell me the year you suggest?
I find the Gold Label 2004 in the shop near my home (from their website).

Wine is expensive in my country but I still enjoy it.
Because I can (and need to) share this pleasure with my friends. ^^

229327 Wine as a celebration? Sounds like a fantastic idea to me! As for year, I am honestly not too sure. 2004 sounds like it would very nice, however, so I think that would be a very safe bet.

I'm back and I am very glad of finishing my long distance cycling.
Thx again for your suggestion. The vendor here told me that 2004 2005 are good years in your country.
Unfortunately, I can't find Wolf Blass in Taipei.
On the other hand (hoof..? :pinkiehappy:).
I found something awesome too.

The left one is the famous Australia red wine in Taiwan. The right one is awesome too.
I stored the left one, the year of 2009 is too new to drink.
(And the left one is expensive for me.... I will open this for the important day....)

We drank the Rolf Binder 2005 for celebration (I love to drink a bit, especially for happy things).

This is my very first enjoying Shiraz red wine and it is pretty cool!

Wish you have nice days too.
