Contest project, day nineteen. · 3:30am Feb 20th, 2015

Here's the new material:

In the train station I buy a book, as usual. No, I'm not a scholar pony, but that doesn't mean that I can't enjoy a book or two between shots. I've already read all the classics; The Divine Comedy, Don Rocinante, Hamlet, One Hundred Years of Solitude. I suppose is my way to escape reality from once in a while.

This time tough, I'm reading something completely different. In the station's gift shop I found a tittle that caught my eye; How to be a good friend by no other that our newest princess, miss perfect Sparkle. At first I thought about shot down everyone in the shop, and take the new Mane Brown's book. But then I remembered Sonata, and how little clue I've got on how to treat her.

The trip to Manehatten is long enough to let me focus on the book and it's cheesy as hell. A smiling, pink and diabetes inducing hell. But it still has some useful tips on how to treat what's apparently a friend. By the end of the trip I'm considering buying something to Sonata and give her more that just the fiver percent of the hit.

Damn it, I'm getting soft. I take my head out of that 'friends' thing and focus on the task at hand. Since this Black Mask guys seems to be a high profile, I need to get serious. Come on Lulamoon, put the helmet on, step out of the train and wait for your contact.

I do exactly that. It's the middle of night when the train arrives and it's all covered by snow. Good, with a weather like this one there are very few witnesses in the streets. Maybe this job will be easy.

***

This job is not gonna be easy. In fact, I'm already counting it as one of the worsts, right next to that time in the Crystal Empire when I almost got caught.

This should be easy. Just meet the contact, find where is Black Mask, point the riffle to his head, press the trigger and say a catchphrase. Even an amateur could follow those steps. But nooooo, the contractor is one of those child with more money than brains that makes everything personal.

The idiot not only contracted me, but other three mercenaries because 'it's very important'. Moron, I should kill him instead and take the satisfaction as payment. Damn I hate group jobs. It doesn't only mean that the contractor doesn't think you can do it alone, which is already insulting, but also that whatever they're paying you, it's just a fraction. You're just getting a piece of what could be bigger, four times bigger in this case.

"Don't worry, miss Deadshot," says the butler that picked me up at the station. "They're very professional too, and I'm positive that it will help." Yeah, keep yubbin' that big mouth, while it's still attached to your bloody neck.

"Here," he says as stopping the car outside an office building. We enter and he leads me to the rooftop. I stop before he opens the door, imagining what kind of ponies I'll be forced to work with. The butler must have a functional brain cell inside that skull, because he notes that I'm not happy with this.

"I can assure you, they were picked under very selective standards." Okay, that can't be really bad, I suppose. "In fact, I'm pretty sure that the three best mercenaries, only under you." He opens the door and I look inside. That's how this guy won, without any effort, the prize to the euphemism of the year.

That's all. I'm sorry but my mind is not even near to this right now. I need to sleep and I'll tell you in the morning.

GAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!! CLIFFHANGER!!!!!!!!!

This should be interesting!

not bad but isn't Trixie being too....mean ?
i mean when she easily think everyone is stupid (in her mind) and is the best
i understand, Trixie is an arrogant one, she even call her the Great and Powerful Trixie.
and the fact that other Mercenaries are hired to work with her....not like she would approve, she think she can take care of Black mask by herself

but still isn't she a bit too mean ?:unsuresweetie:

Calm dow, this is not the last scene of the chapter. In fact, I want this adventure to be a one-shot.

More than arrogance (which is still supposed to be present) is more professional pride. If you can do a job, but your boss says you still need help, it means he doesn't think you can handle it. Also, there's the money thing. If there are four mercs under the same contract, it means that any money for them has to be split in four.

In other words, Trixie is feeling insulted and under payed.

But you're right, it seems overdone. What do you propose to fix it?

2814553 may be a bit less cursing toward the butler, after all it's not his fault if Trixie has to work with four others
he's only the one bringing the bad news:applejackunsure:
