Zero Blogs: Season 5 part 3 · 11:21pm Feb 18th, 2015
A trailer for season 5 has finally been released, and it seems to give credence to my theory on the opener's villain. Sadly, it's a little too soon for the "Zero was right" dance. But as the time is quickly approaching, I thought I'd provide some more input for what I want from the season.
Number 7: More fight scenes
Before I continue, this doesn't mean I want MLP to turn into Dragon Ball Z. Slice of life is clearly its strong point. However, when it does use actual antagonists, putting in actual fight scenes would work to edge the show away from potential anticlimactic One-hit-kills (I'm looking at you Searing). The work they did with Tirek and Adagio was excellent and shows the villains as more threatening in what they can do instead of just what they represent.
Number 8: Reference Sunset Shimmer
This one's a bit more obvious and a bit more unlikely. But hey, if He-who-must-not-be-named could get a cameo, why not Backup Twilight? Plus it would give me more ammo for my stories too.
Number 9: Have somepony die
This is a pretty big one for me. I mean, if Sesame Street could do it, then why shouldn't this how. Children are not idiots. They have a remarkable amount of untapped potential not contained by those of us mired in the "real world." And as such, a episode like this could show them that death is not something to be feared, it's just a natural part of life.
I suppose if they want to make it easier to address, they could lower it to having one of the pets die instead of a pony. Which pet? As the most childlike of the Mane 6, I'd say Pinkie Pie could make the most use of this lesson, and not just because Gummy's comatose anyway. Though if it goes how I think it would, it would probably be Jurassic Bark levels of depressing.
Eh. That's a poor rationalization. Death may be a "natural part of life" in the sense of being inevitable, but that doesn't mean it's not worthy of fear. You shouldn't let the fear of death keep you from living, but again that doesn't mean it's not scary and a worthy object of fear.
2864353 I admit, I find difficulty relating to such a statement. I speak with the mindset of a Christian; someone whose God has conquered death through the cross. To me, death will be a time when I reunite with my Savior. Now of course, that doesn't mean I'm in a hurry to die nor am I suicidal. Regardless of circumstances, the body clings to life. But it does mean that I have no fear of death. Because my God is stronger than death.
