My views on Mature Fics/Sex in fics/Foalcon/etc. · 5:12am Feb 13th, 2015
When a fic has sex on it, I hate it when the author has to show me the entire scene where a guy/female are doing it. I don't need to know what they did, just that they did it. The more mature stories I can care less about on this because they are mature fics; however, to me, just because a fic is tagged mature doesn't mean that the fic itself has any maturity to it. What makes a fic mature even when it's tagged as such are the jokes, the characters, the story telling, and the language being used other than curse words. I can't ever see ponies cursing so much. I can imagine them saying "damn" or "crap" — words of that nature because they're words that are said out in frustration at something; but words like shit, fuck (used excessively), bastard (used excessively), bitch, etc are way too extreme, and need to be toned down a bit. What I am saying is that a mature fic IMO needs a mature mentality. I don't mind there being cursing, but if it's excessive, especially in a single scene, I am done with the fic because I know it isn't going anywhere, and it's really IMMATURE with its vulgar humor, and really stupid OCs that have no influence on the plot what-so-ever.
Back to the sex part. I really only need to say a few things, so bare with me. The sex tag is to let us know that is sexual and suggestive content in the fic. We all know this. No problem with that. I do feel, however, that TOO MANY fics take advantage of that tag because a) wish fulfillment (OC screwing favorite pone scene, and the readers are practically forced to watch every second of it); b) the scene is too descriptive as to what is going on. I don't need to know what they are doing in the scene at all. Keep it subtle, even if it's mature content. Seriously, sex scenes like that do nothing more than to satisfy the author, and nothing else. If there is build up to a clop scene, that is fine. They're getting ready for it, and I don't have to actually stand there and watch them do it because it does nothing to benefit me as the reader. I mean really, it doesn't. So stop describing those scenes to me.
Time for the most infamous of all genres: foalcon! Yay, everybody loves reading about how young female ponies get banged or raped right? Right?! No. Not really — no. I absolutely DESPISE foalcon. If I see a foalcon fic, you bet I am in there to downvote it, and maybe shun the author. Call me a jerk all you want, but they are asking for it. I don't like seeing fillies get themselves ready to be....ugh....penetrated. Anyone who is into foalcon is sick, and I mean really sick. People like this make me feel sick to my stomach. I just want to puke in their faces just to let them know. These fics should burn in my honest opinion. I get really angry when I see foalcon get featured in the featured-box. I have a criticism toward Knighty on this kind of thing.
Getting featured should be determined by the positive reviews, and hard work someone puts into their story. Not a story that was rushed out, has major grammar errors and little to nothing to do with a good, coherent one that got upvotes and likes because people thought it was cool. A fic that is trending should not out do a fic that does well, and actually stands out. This causes a lot of authors with a lot of promise, and great potential to be buried in garbage. When you do find that gem, it may not be shining anymore until you clean it up. Show other people that you found something. LET THE WORLD KNOW! Ahem.
Anyway, that's what I had to say about this. Any of you out there have anything to add? Anything I missed? What's your opinion?
You've totally have missed a point. A story is a story, no matter how hard you try to avoid it and what's going to be in it. Also, so what if the story has foalcon (even though I'm not a fan of it either) it's still a story, no matter if you down vote, dislike, or hate it. Mature stories have been taken advantage of the sex tag, but most writers like to write how they feel and want to describe what sex is to those who don't know what sex is.
I guess with sex it's all subjective. With Foalcon... it just shouldn't be here.

it's a pet peeve of mine. I can't really justify the downvoting, but hey we all have that one thing that irks us. I have many. It's something I can't really tolerate a lot. I have my boiling point.
