Captain Equestria · 3:28am Feb 8th, 2015

Okay, so I finally did a little work on Avenging-Hobbits Captain Equestria. I swear, this chapter is cursed or something. :rainbowwild: But, I have been thinking about AJ as Captain Equestria, and I keeping thinking something weird:

Applejack is not good at being Captain Equestria.

Now, I don't mean to offend anyone. She's not bad in the role, and I have always believed in the hands of a good enough writer, even Nostalgia Critic could made into Captain America. (...Come to think of it...No! Bad plot bunny! Leave Me!) And I especially want to say that this does not mean I dislike any of the various Captain Equestria stories, particularly the one written by Avenging-Hobbits and his still-unamed team of editors and secondary writers. (Seriously, we need to think of a name.)

All that said... think about it. Cap is generally easy going, able to roll with whatever craziness is occurring. He can quickly adapt to situations he has never encountered before. Most importantly, he's pretty good at letting things go, whether it be a grudge or is past.
Applejack is NOT easy going at all. While she can keep up with the wackiness in Ponyville, I've always gotten the impression that she's tolerating whatever is going on rather than really being fine with it. While she does show the ability to plan ahead, she's generally responding to a crisis she already knows how to handle. Most importantly, she refuses to let things go. She's incapable of letting Apple Bloom grow up, almost as much as Apple Bloom herself is, and she can really get stuck in her ways. Which would cause complications when she wakes up several decades later.

As far as I can see, the main reasoning behind AJ being the Captain is that A) She has a thick stereotypical American accent, B) she's very honest and dependable, and C) she holds onto her beliefs with an iron hoof. These aren't bad reasons, especially after watching Winter Soldier, but doesn't it seem like there should be some one who can fit in better?
Now, really think. Which pony is obviously the best suited to becoming the greatest soldier of all time?

Clearly, this one.

(When looking up this picture, I accidentally replaced the F with a S. NEVER DO THIS.)

Now, there are a lot of reasons why this is a bad idea, but I think I can answer all of them.
1) But she's a small, weak mare who you could knock over with a feather! She mot strong enough to become a soldier.
I didn't think that was true at first. But in in fairness, given how Cartoon-y the show can be, it is debatable how much the bear-throwing scene should affect Cannon!Shy's strength. I suppose, based on Hurricane Fluttershy, that we can assume that Fluttershy is fairly weak by Pegasi standards.
Like pre-serum Steve Rogers!
2) Fluttershy doe not condone violence.
This one is a bit more convincing. Fluttershy does seem to be the kind of pony to avoid a fight at any cost. However, we haven't seen what Fluttershy would be like during Wartime. Faced with with an implacable foe systematically killing off everything that didn't fit into their worldview, I think Fluttershy would want to help. Maybe not in a soldier position, but if the process worked it would make sense to transfer into a fighting regiment. But the main reason I think Futtershy is a great choice is because of why Captain America joined up. When asked, why he wanted to join the army, what was it he said?
"I don't like bullies. I don't care where there from."
Applejack would care about where there from, and would probably have a small arch about over coming such prejudiced. Fluttershy, meanwhile would have no problem being understanding and forgiving.
3) Fluttershy would be too afraid to go into battle.
Fluttershy would not be too afraid to go into battle. She has a great number of fears, but she also successfully fights off those fears more often than most ponies on this show. Courage isn't a matter of not being frightened. Its being afraid and doing what you have to do anyway, making Fluttershy the most courageous pony on the show.
And that's why I think Fluttershy should be the Star-Spangled Mare.

You raise a few good points about Fluttershy as Cap...

So, who would be Hulk then?

I'm inclined to go with Twilight.
She has a tendency to hold her emotions in until it becomes harmful, she's obedient enough to realistically see her working for the military, but tough enough to to stand up to General Ross.
Also, given how the Hulk is usually just a brawler, I'm interested in seeing how exactly having magic would affect him.

There is a story about Hulk!Twilight ,but its barely a chapter in, and it hasn't been touched in months. Which sucks, because that chapter was enough to make me follow both the story and the author, and I don't give out author follows very often.

Huh; not a bad idea.
Also, we could call ourselves the Hobbits Initiative.

Ooo, I like it!

Team A-H?
The Harmonies?

We could call ourselves Harmonies Warriors too, in a pinch...
