Zero Blogs Season 5...again · 11:45pm Jan 26th, 2015
Here's a continuation of my previous blog with more ideas for season 5. Though you knew that already.
Number 4: Have a Wonderbolts episode
"But Zero," you tell me. "We already had something like that in Wonderbolts Academy."
Yes, we did. But that was a Rainbow Dash episode featuring the Wonderbolts. I'm referring to an episode pairing (NOT LIKE THAT!) up Rainbow Dash with one of the group, probably Spitfire. One of the Friends Forever comics did something like this, with Rainbow having to help Spitfire teach a group of colts and fillies how to fly. But Spitfire struggled with how to address the kids properly since she couldn't be tough with them like she could with her team and the cadets.
Perhaps for the episode, we could see Spits uncharacteristically down on herself. When Rainbow asks why, the former addresses the events in Sonic Rainboom, and Secret of My Excess. She doesn't feel worthwhile to herself and her team since they keep suffering humiliating defeats. And it'll be up to Dash to boost their moral. Bonus points if when she does so (probably by helping them avert Ponyville Crisis #347), she's officially made a Wonderbolt herself.
Number 5: Call out Pinkie Pie
It's safe to say that Pinkie's...a divisive character. Some people love her, some people hate her, and some people switch depending on the episode. But, this brony has noticed that she tends to be heavily involved in some of the more contested episodes as well. Feeling Pinkie Keen, Swarm of the Century, Luna Eclipsed, Super Speedy Cider Squeezy, and most recently, Filli Vanilli.
Yes, Pinkie has a habit of being insensitive. That's one of her character flaws. But unlike Rainbow's ego, Twilight's neurosis, Rarity's greed, Fluttershy's timidity, or Applejack's stubbornness, this flaw has yet to be addressed on the show. Most of the time, they either dismiss it as "Pinkie Pie being Pinkie Pie" or even worse try to play it for laughs. This has a habit of making her a Karma Houdini, something which highly irritates some of the fans. I'd like to see an episode finally addressing that and having her try to change that characteristic.
For example, it's time for the Ponytones to perform once again, and Pinkie Pie notices that something is off. As the season 5 promo shows us, she can tell when a smile is being faked, and she ends up very concerned to see that same kind of smile on her close friend Fluttershy.
Now this can go one of several ways. One of the characters (possibly Discord) could remind her of the things she said. Throwing in other callbacks to the Smile Song and Griffin the Brush Off (Nopony makes Fluttershy cry).
And that revelation ends with Pinkie feeling heartbroken. Like Pinkamena levels of heartbroken. And she spends the rest of the episode too scared to speak her mind for fear of upsetting anyone else. As for the moral, it should be that you should always access how your friends would react to what you're about to say before you say it. But we need to be sure that Pinkie is shown to be in the wrong by her past actions. It's REALLY. IMPORTANT. THAT. YOU. DO. THAT!!
Sorry, having flashbacks here.
Number 6: Have a character turn evil
As I said before in my Searing blog, there was a whole lot of potential with the character. Both in the story, and in the show.
Throughout the four seasons, the conflict has always been external. Villain comes to Equestria and is defeated. But here, the conflict could come from within their own ranks. It doesn't have to be the whole Darth Vader shtick. Perhaps Twilight experimenting with dark magic goes horribly wrong and ends up corrupting one of her friends or herself. Or maybe she starts carving more magic ever since she had to give the other alicorns back theirs and becomes addicted to it. The potential for character development is there.
Well, that's all for now.
Let me know what you think once again.
